TACFLEET NOTES
When the ALLOSAURUS-Class BC was launched some forty-five years ago, it represented the best that Gorn science could offer. This vessel had the primary purpose of defending Gorn space from Tholian incursions, as well as leading raids into the Holdfast.
It was marginally successful in that role, but it did not live up to the bold expectations that were placed upon it.
Today, the ALLOSAURUS-Class BC is an aging, underpowered ship in the Gorn Navy. At a cursory glance, the presence of twelve neutron blasters and six torpedo launchers would indicate a powerful warship. However, the old model-IV Blasters are roughly as potent as type-VII phasers, and the GPT-2 torpedoes have only 50% of the firepower of a Mark XXIII photon torpedo. The impulse drives are underpowered, and there are only two such drives. As a result, the ALLOSAURUS is relatively unmaneuverable in combat.
The ALLOSAURUS is equipped with series 8 shields, two levels weaker than those found on the T-Rex. Given that the best Gorn shielding (the GS-10) is roughly comparable to a FD-9e, the model 8 system is as effective as a FD-7 series system. As such, this vessel is woefully undershielded, and relies heavily on its ablative armor. Fortunately for the crews, there is a great deal of armor on the ALLOSAURUS. Still, the technological deficiencies of this craft render it the equal of a Star Fleet destroyer or light cruiser, and the ALLOSAURUS is incapable of dealing with similarly-sized foreign vessels.
This vessel, like the T-REX, carries an impressive array of surface vehicles, shuttles, and other embarked craft. Those, and the presence of 200 elite shock troops provide the ALLOSAURUS with the ability to perform boarding and other marine actions adeptly, though this vessel's role as a combat ship is being regularly diminished. Once seen regularly in all parts of Gorn territory, these ships are now primarily relegated to defending the interior of Hegemony space.
This ship has largely been phased out as a battleship by the TYRANNASAURUS REX-Class BB and as an interior defense ship by the new TRICERATOPS-Class heavy cruisers.
