Hobbies and Interests

Sareka tends to feed off of a challenge and will voraciously attack something that interests him until he has mastered the skill. This is reflected in his interests in tactical games and his love of archery.

Ever since his enrollment in the Starfleet Marines, Sareka has maintained a dedicated work out schedule in which he pushes his body just as hard as he pushes his mind. His favorite part of his work out schedule is running on a simulation of a beach from Betazed which he uses not only for exercise but as a form of meditation.

Recently, as a result to his mind meld with Lt. Ayindrias, Sareka’s interests have returned to many of the martial arts forms that he learned as a child and while in Special Operations. He’s currently experimenting with integrating his own training with the extensive martial arts training that he learned from the mind meld.

Biographical Notes

Sareka was born into conflicting worlds but to loving parents. On one hand,
his mother taught him to embrace emotions and to be proud of the way he
felt. On the other hand, his father taught him the traditional values of
the Vulcan people, including the need to suppress his emotions for logic.
Being raised on Betazed and on Vulcan, Sareka has taken both traditions to
heart and made his own. In general he appears and acts as stoically as any
Vulcan but in private, amongst people he trusts, Sareka has been known to
express his emotions openly although rarely.

Sareka's early life has been dominated by the death of his mother and
sister. Sareka privately blamed his father for their deaths believing that
his father's belief in total pacifism resulted in their loss. Recently though,
he and his father have overcome their previous differences. Sareka now
realizes that his father’s lack of action was the only logical choice because
his father would not have been able to stop the situation even if he had acted. It is the
loss of his mother and sister that has shaped Sareka's views on violence. He believes that violence should be avoided but is a logical solution to a problem when all other
solutions have failed.

Sareka's education, after his mother's death, was marked by difficulty. He excelled in his early education and was placed in a school for gifted children, where his mental abilities could be challenged along with is psionic abilities. Although extremely intelligent, being described as gifted, he was unable to apply himself to his studies after his mother’s death. Although his grades did not accurately reflect his abilities, his instructors saw that Sareka had survived on pure
raw talent and intuition rather than studying. This led to their offer to
help him into a Master's program but he refused, knowing that school was no
longer what he needed.

After leaving Vulcan for the Merchant Marines, Sareka's life took its next
major step when his ship was captured by Orion Pirates. Although the
pirates only meant to steal the cargo, a Federation ship arrived too soon,
trapping the pirates on board. In an act of desperation, the pirates took
the crew hostage and began to threaten to execute them. When negotiations
broke down, the pirates did carry out their threat but was quickly stopped
by a Special Operations team that had been assigned to the Federation
vessel.

This event turned Sareka around and gave him a purpose in life. He saw
it his mission to prevent another loss of life, like his mother and sister.
This prompted his entry into Starfleet Marines and later into requesting Special
Operations training. Unfortunately Sareka realized too late that death was part of life in the military. After several years working in Special Operations, Sareka lost his entire team while on a classified mission. He was then transferred to a training position and out of an active combat role. Sareka served in training for a few years but after all of his transfer requests had been denied, he realized that is career in the Marines was over.

Sareka then transferred his commission to the Starfleet Navy and began serving on the USS BUNKER HILL as the Tactical Officer. It was on the BUNKER HILL that Sareka realized that he had found a home in the Navy, making several good friends. He also excelled as a Tactical Officer, his natural talents once again being challenged by the new position and the ever changing work of life in the Navy. It was now that Sareka was able to finally truly apply himself to what he was doing and literally absorbed every piece of information that he could get his hands on. Even after he was promoted and transferred to the USS VOLTOR his drive to overcome any challenge was not diminished and he continued to push himself both physically and mentally. This drive and his natural talent have not developed into an ego problem though, if anything Sareka over compensates for his natural talent by self doubting his abilities. This was evident with his promotion and transfer to the USS FEARLESS as the Executive Officer. Although he had the talent and drive to succeed, his early time on board the FEARLESS was marked with him questioning himself. All that ended though after Captain Nathanial Harris betrayed Starfleet and his crew by turning traitor, forcing Sareka into command.

Sareka, now Captain of the FEARLESS, has overcome much of his initial insecurities about being in command. Currently though, Sareka is working to overcome the side effects of a mind meld that he was forced to do with his Operations Officer, Shayiana Ayindrias. Sareka was forced to mind meld with Lt. Ayindrias after she experienced a mental trauma that forced her mind to recede deep into her subconscious. Lt. Ayindrias’ own incredible psionic abilities were virtually turned against her by her own mind and posed an immediate risk to her life. Sareka was able to bring Lt. Ayindrias back out of her self induced coma but not without a complete sharing of their memories with each other. As a side effect of this sharing and Ayindrias incredible mental abilities, Sareka has developed a questionable connection to Lt. Ayindrias that neither of them has fully come to terms with. Lt. Ayindrias’ memories and experiences have apparently been mixed with Sareka’s own memories to a level that he has had difficulties separating the two. Currently Sareka has undergone treatment for this problem while staying on Vulcan during leave. Although the treatment is far from complete, he has been able to organize his memories and can now call upon Lt. Ayindrias memories much like using a reference book.
