B. Background Summary

John James Dekker was born on New Years Day, 2391. His parents were Dr. George, and CDR Ellen Dekker. His father, George was a Starfleet astrophysicist assigned to the Jonathan Archer Observatory on top of Mt. Antares. His mother, Commander Ellen Dekker was a Starfleet Intelligence Officer. He isn’t married but cherishes the eight nieces and nephews he has collectively from his two sisters.
When John was seventeen his mother went missing following a shuttle accident. No trace of her was ever found.
A year after his mother’s disappearance John took the Starfleet entrance exam and passed with flying colors. His main area of study was Astronavigation. John made many friends both with his professors and fellow cadets. John excelled in the academy graduating fifth in his class overall and first in his command school unit.
Upon Graduation in 2413 John was posted as alpha shift flight control officer aboard the Agamemnon-Class battlecruiser, USS Prometheus NCC-25005 under the command of Captain Alexander McIntyre. John spent five years onboard (2413-2418) eventually earning two promotions and a Starfleet Commendation Medal. Following a classified mission John was reassigned to USS Chiron NCC-27010 a Circe-Class warship under the command of Captain Katherine Ross (2418-2420). After two years John was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and assigned second officer aboard USS Chimaera NCC-25014 under the command of Captain Gregory Burke.
After four years John transferred off Chimaera and accepted an assignment as second officer aboard the Invincible-Class starship, USS Audacious NCC-21944. During his tenure as second officer he was once forced to assume command of Audacious when Captain Sato, a Vulcan was temporarily assigned a diplomatic mission on behalf of the Federation. With Commander Moore medically unable to assume command the Audacious was assigned escort duty of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, conducting humanitarian relief operations. During the humanitarian operation then Lieutenant Commander Dekker disobeyed a direct order from Admiral Denning and drove off Ferengi pirates.
After four years John was promoted to commander and reassigned as XO aboard the Invincible-Class battlecruiser, USS Renown NCC-21914. His tenure aboard the Renown was uneventful. Following his tour aboard Renown he transferred to USS Invincible NCC-21900 under the command of Captain Evelyn Gibson. There was a notable incident aboard the Invincible where the vessel was ambushed by Cardassian renegades. The ship was boarded and later scuttled by two other Starfleet ships following the battle with the renegades.
After a three month vacation John was pressed back to duty under classified orders. He was promoted to captain and given command of the USS Prometheus NCC-25005. He remains in command of Prometheus today.
