TACFLEET Notes

The Nei'rrh-class Frigates are small and very maneuverable, which made them very effective in the many skirmishes with the Borg in recent years. The ships of this class show great variability in their weapons and defensive systems. Many older ships of the class vary substantially from the standard configuration. There were reports of Nei'rrh class ships being outfitted with a single plasma torpedo launcher. There have even been unsubstantiated reports of Nei'rrh class ships being automated, packed with highly unstable protomatter and being used as large, high speed torpedoes against Borg cubes.

The Mist-class cloaking device used in the Nei'rrh-class is a fairly old design and is prone to detectable tachyon leakage at velocities above warp 4.0. These emissions seem to vary greatly from ship-to-ship, and Starfleet engineers have speculated that it is caused by resonances between the cloaking field emitters.

Nei'rrh-class frigates will often be used in pairs as sensor pickets, or will be found escorting convoys and larger ships. Intelligence sources have reported that the Romulan shipyards at Corvat appear to be producing a new class of small ship that may be a more modern replacement for the Nei'rrh-class.
