Elan Vasquez graduated from Starfleet Academy and was commissioned as an Ensign in 2416 and his first assignment was in the Tactical department as a junior officer on the USS COVENTRY. Six years later he transferred to the USS TEXAS. He spent seven years on that ship, first in Tactical and later in Operations. After seven years serving on the USS TEXAS, he accepted a new position on the USS HACKNEY DIAMOND, as Chief Operations Officer. Two years after joining the USS HACKNEY DIAMOND Elan was promoted to Lieutenant Commander at 36 years old.

Elan is not prone to panic and his ability to remain level-headed under pressure has been observed in every position he has held.

Outside of his duties on the USS Circe, Elan has other interests. He's an avid reader of Earth literature. For sports, he enjoys golf the most, although a life on starships only affords him opportunities to golf on holodecks, when he is not on duty and looking for recreational fun, golf on a holodeck usually fills that need. He finds more enjoyment golfing alone when golfing on a holodeck, than he does holodeck golfing with others. The limitations of a holodeck being able to provide convincing verisimilitude when one person hooks their shot out of bounds and another player slices theirs out of bounds tend to give Elan a headache. Another sport he enjoys on a holodeck is bowling, although he is only an average bowler.

Despite his ethnic background, having his parents and grandparents hailed from Mexico, his birthplace, and despite their efforts to raise him to be as proud of his heritage as they were, Elan was not as appreciative as they would have preferred, and in fact, left Mexico and them as a young teenager and moved to Solvang California, with his then-girlfriend, Tess O'Malley, in the few years before he was accepted into Starfleet Academy.

In May of 2436, Elan will have put in 20 years in Starfleet as a commissioned officer.
