| Jack Steele had an unremarkable childhood. Raised in the Canadian North
| |
| he was an avid and gifted hunter and outdoorsman by the age of 12. The
| |
| Steele family had a long and proud tradition of police/security work
| |
| dating back to the Legendary Samual Steele who was an integral part of
| |
| the formation of the North West Mounted Police in the mid 1870s. Rick
| |
| caused quite a stir when he opted not to join the Mounties and instead
| |
| listed in Starfleet Academy.
| |
|
| |
| His first two years at the Acadmey Rick enjoyed exemplary. While always
| |
| a good student he had excelled in his studies at the detriment of his
| |
| social and non-acadmeic life. While he a good rapport with his fellow
| |
| students and squadmates he picked up the nickname ‘worm’ as when he
| |
| wasn’t in class or training he generally had a book in his hand. This
| |
| was noted on several occasions by his acamedmic advisor and finally by
| |
| the end of his second year he was ‘ordered’ to involve himself in
| |
| extracurrilar activities. At the beginning of the third year he
| |
| managed to make onto the 2nd squad of the Academy Soccer Team and also
| |
| became active in the Wargaming Society.

| |
| Jack’s early Starfleet years where unremarkable until he distinguished
| |
| himself on SD: 2249.331 while a member of a Landing Party on Artel III.
| |
| The party was ambushed by the primitive Artellians during their survey
| |
| mission. The officer in command was killed and several of the team were
| |
| captured. Steele kept a cool head and was able to free the Landing
| |
| Party and escape the planet all without harming any of the natives.
| |
| This seemed to be a turning point in Steele’s career and he began to
| |
| receive more important assignments.
| |
|
| |
| As Steele moved up in rank and responsibility his command style has
| |
| continued to grow. While a stickler for the rules and regulations
| |
| in his earlier years he has developed into a seasoned and well rounded
| |
| commander. He still hates to delegate and like to ‘keep his hands
| |
| dirty’ but he has learned to trust his subordinates and takes great
| |
| pride in their accomplishments.

| CDR Jack Steele has been a well rounded and stable individual. However
| |
| he harbours some internal guilt over the actions that led to his current
| |
| assignement. Intellectually he is aware of the guilt and has taken steps
| |
| to ensure it does not affect his command. It remains to be seen whether
| |
| he will be able to come to terms with this survivor’s guilt on an
| |
| emotional level. Given the history of his strong mental health I do not
| |
| forsee this being a long term issue.
