Criminal Investigations 101
Anyone can ask questions and learn the law but only a trained law enforcement officer can use the right questions and apply the laws correctly. Starfleet Security and Investigations has an incredibly difficult task, to ensure the safety and to enforce the laws. SFJAG's role is to determine if Security conducted their investigations both legally and in sufficent depth to determine a persons guilt or innocence. As such, here is a quick reference guide on conducting criminal investigations.
Note: This information is based on the United States Constitution and the interpertations of the US Supreme Court. Although the author is a law enforcement professional, this is not intended to provide any real world legal advice.
