B. Background Summary
---------------------

Claire Riley is a tough, courageous, fiery woman of deep loyalties, strong 
convictions, and fiercely protective instincts.  She takes care of her own 
even if it means risking the mission at hand.  Focused and determined,
she strives for excellence in her job and pushes those around her to be
better than their best.  She's no non-sense and has a very black-and-white
idea of right and wrong.  

As a woman of the Christian faith, she has learned to keep her sharp temper 
reigned in.  She nevertheless still deals with feelings of profound hurt and 
anger over her adulterous ex-husband.  Consequently, Claire has trust 
issues.  Her tendency to distance herself emotionally from those who love 
her has shown through in practically all her relationships.  Of her immediate 
family, she has only remained close to Serah and even in that bond, cracks 
have begun to show.  

Claire commands an uncanny instinct for when trouble is brewing.  She 
often senses an attack seconds or even minutes before it happens.  It 
is a trait that has saved her on multiple occasions.  It has also, in her eyes,
brought her great heart ache such as when it led her to discover her 
unfaithful husband in bed with another woman.  

Though Claire still believes in love and secretly hopes to someday remarry,
she is extremely cautious.  The few men she has dated since divorcing
have proven spectacularly disappointing.  She secretly fears that Serah
will make the same mistakes she has.

Claire Riley is in excellent health.  Exam reveals several healed scars on 
her left should from a battle wound sustained in the Larentium Conflict.  
She reports they have been making her increasingly uncomfortable at 
night and whenever she is in a cold environment.  She declined to undergo
 a Berringer's Dermal Regenerative Regimin to correct the scarring and 
associated neurological trauma until the discomfort became more 
proncounced.  Otherwise no abnormalities and she is cleared for duty.

I discussed with Claire Riley her recent dreams (she refused to categorize
them as nightmares) about her younger sister Serah being in various 
perilous situations in light of the sibling's recent traumatic tour of duty
aboard the USS LEXINGTON.  Claire has stated her intention to join Serah 
at the next opportunity to help her through the recovery process.  I stated
that I would be cautious about such a move and avoid becoming 
overprotective.
