"I think the cadets are coming along rather well," ENS Cartwright said as | |||
she and Jerran walked into his room. He immediately went over to his | |||
bedroom to change out of the flight jumpsuit he was wearing and into a | |||
regular duty uniform for the briefing in a half an hour. "I'm glad the | |||
Training Corp let decided to let them stay for the next mission." | |||
As Jerran washed up and put on a new shirt, he nodded and said, "Yeah, but | |||
I'd still prefer to get some real pilots for this next mission. If the | |||
tone of CMDR Maril's voice on that message about the briefing was any | |||
indication, we might need them. Computer, list messages." | |||
[One message forwarded by WO1 Charles Dunnon, originally from ENS Allard.] | |||
"Ah, our new security chief. Play message." | |||
As he got dressed, the FCO listened to the CSO's message concerning | |||
beefing up the flight department with other types of fighters. He raised | |||
an eyebrow but made no comment till the message had played out. | |||
"Computer, response to ENS Allard's message as follows: Suggestions noted | |||
and appreciated. However, in the future, any comments and suggestions | |||
dealing with the flight department should be sent directly to me. End | |||
Message." | |||
"Wasn't that a little harsh?" Jennifer said as she plopped herself down on | |||
the couch. "Afterall, this probably is his first deep space assignment." | |||
"True, but he's got to learn this from someone. Better it be me and my | |||
style than for him to do the exact same thing with someone like LT Koreth | |||
and end up getting his head bitten off for it." | |||
He walked over and kissed Jennifer before walking towards the door. As he | |||
was about to leave, she said, "Speaking of the CEO, scuttlebut is that you | |||
had better stay out of engineering for a while. That maneuver you did | |||
blew out quite a few SIF and IDF relays, and so you are not exactly on his | |||
list of favorite people." | |||
"Oh, I guess you're right. As soon as the meeting is over, I'll go down | |||
and help put together some of the damage I created. A couple of the new | |||
shuttles should be arriving sometime around then, so you'll have to get | |||
them and catalog them." | |||
"Aye, sir," she said with a mock salute from the couch as he walked out | |||
toward the holodeck. | |||

Scene: Holodeck<br> | |||
Considering the holonovel LT Jenn was working on this morning when LTJG | |||
Jerran had passed by her in the hallway, he was somewhat expecting to see | |||
dragons floating around the sky scape as he walked into the holodeck, but | |||
was instead surprised to see the table with the PADDs sitting near the | |||
blue glowing door. | |||
He picked up a PADD and walked towards the door, thinking it was a | |||
the | forcefield. He touched it lightly with his hand and felt it go through | ||
water. Smiling, he walked through the threshhold, holding his breath. | |||
As a half Vulcan, he was too genetically inclined to swim underwater, | |||
usually, let alone breath under it, but when one of the finned humanoids | |||
came up and told him it was alright to breath, he tried it. It was | |||
somewhat difficult to breath, but he got used to it rather quickly and | |||
followed the mermaid to the briefing area. He decided this was probably | |||
payback for making the crew walk up the steps of Mount Seleya in Vulcan's | |||
thin, dry atmosphere. | |||
When he arrived, he watched as LT Koreth dismounted his sea horse, and | |||
gave the CEO a slight, apologetic smile as he wandered over to the buffet | |||
table which the OPS officer was already conspicuously attacking, as was | |||
usual. Jerran was glad to see that the death of her husband hadn't killed | |||
Krysa's appetite. He got a few seafood delicacies and sat down at the | |||
table, awaiting the arrival of the rest of the senior officers. | |||

SLD: 2.1330 (Mission briefing is at 2.1400 right?)<br> | |||
Krysa had barely finished initializing her holo-novel when she got a | |||
message from Commander Zane that she needed to have her briefing program | |||
ready for the mission briefing. She had almost forgotten. Kavan’s novel | |||
her | would have to wait. She stored that program and brought out her briefing | ||
program. After about a couple hours of finishing touches she felt it was | |||
ready. She called Bat and he met her at the Holodeck. | |||
“You look tired, Bat.” | |||
“Oh please, don’t remind me. I took some of the guys down to Epsilon last | |||
night. They had to kick us out sometime this morning. I am tired!” | |||
Krysa chuckled. “Well, I hope you’re up for this.” | |||
“I wouldn’t think of letting you down,” he said with a grin, attempting to | |||
push the late night/early morning look from his face. “I’m ready when you | |||
are.” he asked her. | |||
She nodded, “Computer, run briefing program Jenn One.” | |||
<Program now running. Enter when ready.> | |||
Krysa walked through the open doorway into a small room, followed closely | |||
by Bat. On one wall was a long table with eight PADD’s set out. On the | |||
wall opposite the Arch was an open door way with a blue shimmering energy | |||
field blocking it. | |||
Krysa | <Good Morning, Krysa,> came her own voice over the speakers, <Please take | ||
a PADD and enter through the blue doorway.> | |||
Bat smiled, “Much better then the old computer voice,” | |||
<Good Morning, Bat> Krysa’s voice said again, <Welcome to today’s mission | |||
briefing.> | |||
Krysa chuckled. She picked up a PADD and motioned for Bat to head through | |||
the doorway. | |||
“Why do you need a special PADD?” asked Bat. | |||
“You’ll see,” she said with a grin. | |||
“Ladies, first,” he objected. | |||
“Not this time, my friend,” she smiled. | |||
Bat shrugged, “I should know better by now,” he murmured more to himself | |||
then to her. He always seemed to be the guinea pig for these little | |||
briefing programs. Then he walked through the door and disappeared from | |||
her view. Krysa followed him immediately stepping through the doorway. | |||
She was immediately immersed in water standing on a small ledge. She | |||
could feel the water as soft currents carried it like a breeze around her. | |||
Yet she was breathing normally. She looked around, to see a muscular | |||
merman standing there motioning for her to follow him. <If you will follow | |||
me.> he said telepathically. | |||
She smiled, pleased with the final full effect of her program. She looked | |||
beyond the ledge to see Bat having a grand time swimming through the 3D | |||
aqua world, doing flips and rolls along with a pretty mermaid. She | |||
laughed, glad to see he was enjoying it. | |||
“So what do you think,” She called. While she could talk under the water, | |||
her voice was slightly distorted. | |||
He swam over to her, followed by the mermaid, and landed his feet on the | |||
ledge next to her. “I love it! So I take it the PADD’s are waterproof?” | |||
Krysa nodded and he continued, “How is it that we can talk and breath | |||
under all this water?” he asked with the same distorted effect on his | |||
voice. | |||
“Because you are with an Imarian Aquine,” she said with a smile. | |||
“A what?” then looking at the mermaid, he said, “Her? The mermaid?” | |||
Krysa nodded, “Pretty close, Bat. Actually she is an Imarian Aquine from | |||
the planet Imari. It is a planet much like Earth, being over 50% water. | |||
However, there are two sentient species on the planet. One being the | |||
Aquines,” she said motioning at their escorts, “and the other being the | |||
Avines. Both are humanoid, except that the Aquines have gills as well as | |||
lungs and the Avines have wings as well as arms. If we were on land | |||
meeting the ‘merman’, you wouldn’t even know he was a merman. They only | |||
have their tails when immersed in water.” | |||
“Can’t say as I’ve ever met one.” | |||
Krysa smiled, “No, not likely, they are very new members of our | |||
Federation.” | |||
“Course that still doesn’t explain how I can breath down here.” | |||
“Actually it does,” she said smiling, “Each Imarian Aquine can ‘breath’ | |||
for approximately two or three non-Aquines. I’m not really sure of the | |||
biology behind it. Perhaps Dr. Glin’kharr could explain it; I can’t. I | |||
just know that it works. So as long as you’re with your escort, you should | |||
have no problem breathing,” she assured him, “So it’s fun, isn’t it?” | |||
“That it is,” he said stepping off the ledge as he did a few more spins | |||
through the water. “So where are we holding this meeting?” She pointed | |||
down toward a dark cavern where another muscular merman sat guarding the | |||
the | entrance. It was the only cave entrance so should be difficult for her | ||
fellow crewmates to follow. | |||
The two swam down to the merman who meet them, “Good tide, Krysa. The | |||
meeting awaits you.” He bowed gallantly to the Betazoid woman and then | |||
turned to Bat, “Good tide to you as well, Sir.” | |||
Bat and Krysa nodded and swam into the cavern which was lit by luminescent | |||
rocks which lined portions of the walls. | |||
They continued down the lit tunnel until the came to a large cavern where | |||
a conference table had been set up. Bat’s buffet table was set up as well, | |||
waiting for him to come up with a few surprises to place upon it. | |||
“How do you expect me to set a table down here. My liver pate would be | |||
ruined, not to mention those cute little sandwiches I spent all morning | |||
cutting,” he said chuckling. “I can just see them floating through the | |||
water now.” | |||
“Hmm,” she said with a raised eyebrow, “I’m sure you can come up with | |||
something suited to the decor.” | |||
“Sure... but will anyone eat it.” Then he glance at her, “...besides you, | |||
my dear.” | |||
Krysa laughed and swam over to the table to help Bat prepare his part of | |||
and | this briefing. | ||

BTW, I did not create the Imarian Aquine race nor their planet. They were | |||

another RP group. I thought they were fun, so here it is. Have fun ! :) | |||

As normal, the Feynman CEO completely disregarded the | |||
shore leave orders. There was always work to be done. After the | |||
last mission he had to replace one of the structural integrity | |||
field generators. And Tarrant cursed Jerran's name every second | |||
the | of it. Not so much out of jealousy, but because of the absolute | ||
lack of thought at what his manuever almost did. The backup | |||
SIF was at 14% when they finally pulled out of the little maneuver. | |||
Had Tarrant not have been at an Engineering Panel, the Feynman | |||
would have been no more. | |||
Tarrant had | Then there was the Captain's new chair. That was something a | ||
little more interesting to build. A tungsten-duranium alloy would | |||
provide the support needed for what Tarrant had in mind. The | |||
chair itself would have 360 deg. rotation. And a special addition, | |||
a PGR (Personal Gravity Restraint). Emitters throughout the chair | |||
would produce a type of gravity beam that would keep the Captain | |||
in his chair should the ship be thrown about. All he would have to do | |||
would be to touch a ergonomically placed button on the left arm. Or | |||
he could set it for automatic use. | |||
Now though the CEO found himself heading to holodeck 3. The | |||
future awaited, and he was a little hungry for action. Probably | |||
the Klingon part of him coming out a little, and the fact that | |||
he missed being at tactical when the Cardassian's arrived. | |||
Scene: Holodeck 3<br> | |||
MD: 2:1350<br> | |||
< | Tarrant stepped through the arch and found himself in another room. | ||
<Gasp> At the far side he saw the blue opening. After the last | |||
few briefings this time Tarrant came prepared... almost. Carefully | |||
the CEO let his hand enter the blueish substance and felt wet. | |||
Removing it, it came out dry. A few wavy figures could be seen inside. | |||
"At least we won't be dripping throught the ship after this." | |||
Then he realized that Krysa would probably stop anyone from | |||
altering her little world with a PADD inside. Water, even holographic, | |||
could be programmed to render equipment useless. | |||
After remembering the Flying Carpet incident during the Egypt | |||
holobriefing where he slammed into the Great Pyramid, Tarrant | |||
pondered his next choice carefully. Finally he gave in. | |||
After a moment he accessed some of the commands and brought | |||
out something more to his style, then he entered the waterworld. | |||
" | "Good Tide, Sir." Announced the fishy figure. | ||
Tarrant found himself floating in water. Worse, he could never | |||
swim all that well. He started to panic a little before he realized that he | |||
could take a breath. | |||
(Good old Krysa) Thought Tarrant. Then he looked around | |||
and found his transportation. His little addition. | |||
To his right was a Giant Seahorse, perfect for the partial klingon | |||
to jump on. To its right another merfolk had saddled himself on one | |||
of the creatures. | |||
"Your steed sir. I will be your escort." | |||
" | |||
...............<br> | |||
A smile, a true smile, was glued to Tarrant's face. The Sea Horse | |||
was absolutely perfect. Instead of rushing directly to the cave, | |||
the CEO touk a roundabout course checking out the other | |||
sea life. His programmed escort continued to try and get him to | |||
the cave ahead, but wouldn't leave his side. | |||
Tarrant had never thought of water as fun before, nor did he | |||
ever really care for sea life. But this was incredible. | |||
Finally he entered the cave, and dismounted. "Good boy" blurbed | |||
and | Tarrant as he patted the Sea Horse. | ||
Entering the conference area, Tarrant spotted the OPS officer and | |||
gave her a deep "Good Tide, Krysa." | |||

MD: 4.0600<br> | |||
Scene: Bridge<br> | |||
Zane entered the bridge with great anticipation. Three days of | |||
monotonous travel had taken its toll and he was thankful they had finally | |||
arrived. He noticed that all the senior officers who had ALPHA watch were | |||
already at their stations. It seemed they too were looking forward to the | |||
next FEYNMAN adventure. | |||
" | "We're approaching the Coalsack's perimeter." The FCO told him. | ||
" | "Slow to impulse. And hold at 10,000km." | ||
" | "Aye sir." Jerran replied. | ||
"What's behind there, lieLutenant?" | |||
"Sensors are having trouble penetrating the 'wall'." The OPS | |||
officer replied as her fingers flew across her board. | |||
" | "Lt Meleah?" Zane asked. | ||
" | "One moment sir." The new SCI, sitting at the bridge science | ||
station began to fine tune the DELPHI Array. She had expected such a | |||
problem and had already completed modifications. | |||
" | "Begining to receive some information now sir...." As Jenn began | ||
to relay the information to the rest of the bridge, Zane pulled up her | |||
diosplays on his arm console. It didn't look very inviting. | |||
" | "Bridge to engineering." | ||
[Koreth here.] | |||
" | "Mr. Koreth are the two communication relay pods ready for | ||
launch?" | |||
[Yes sir. We're locked and loaded.] | |||
After the briefing the Admiral had sent out they had taken some | |||
extra precautions one of which was to adjust two probes to become enhanced | |||
communications relays. It had been decided that the FEYNMAN, on its | |||
own would most likely lose contact with EPSILON after entering the sack | |||
and that these two probes would, hopefully, allieviate this. The first | |||
would be deployed here, just outside the sack and was essentially a | |||
standard communications relay. The second would be deployed just inside | |||
the sack. When discussing the idea the new SCI had suggested that the | |||
storms and their resulting currents and eddies would most likely send the | |||
relay thousands of kilometres away from its intended station thus negating | |||
its effects. As a solution, Lt. Koreth had, with a little improvisation, | |||
attached a small computer and engine to the probe which would keep it with | |||
100km of its desired position. | |||
" | "Ensign Allard deploy probe 1." | ||
" | "Probe one away." | ||
" | "Put me on ship wide Ensign." | ||
" | "Aye sir." | ||
" | "Attention all hands, this is the Captain. In a few moments we | ||
will be entering the Coalsack. As I'm sure you are all aware it is a most | |||
uninviting place. While the FEYNMAN is well suited to this environment we | |||
can expect to be jostled around somewhat, especially upon entry. So grab | |||
something solid and hold on. See you on the other side. Zane out." He | |||
turned to face Maril. "Here we go." | |||
" | "Raise shields and go to yellow alert." The first officer | ||
ordered. | |||
" | "Mr. Jerran take us in 1/4 impulse." | ||
______________________________________________<br> | |||
Scene: Bridge, USS PHOENIX<br> | |||
"We've just received word from TYPHOON sir, FEYNMAN has | |||
just entered the 'sack at position L-357." | |||
"Helm set course for the TYPHOON, warp 1. Signal the ARGONAUT and | |||
the ROLLING THUNDER to join us there." | |||
"Sensors have picked up a small probe left just outside the | |||
'sack." | |||
"A communications relay?" Tremaine asked. | |||
"Think so." His exec replied. | |||
"Can we access it?" | |||
" | "Already working on it." | ||
" | "Excellent." He leaned back in his chair smiling. Everything was | ||
proceeding to plan. In a few days they would have the information they | |||
needed and in a few days more they'd be heroes. Pity that the FEYNMAN | |||
might have to be 'removed'. The thought of firing on Starfleet officers | |||
was not a pleasant one. Still, it was officers like them, so officious | |||
and rigid that had put him and his crew in the position they were now in. | |||
But not for long. His sources at Starfleet Command had told him that 5 | |||
new ships were being readied for launch. He meant to have one. | |||

Maril arrived back on the Bridge, noticing that Commander Zane had left. He also noticed that Lieutenants Jenn and Jerran were teasing each other, and so(partially because he was in a good mood and partially because he couldn't have Jenn sitting in the new chair while he just stood there), he interrupted them. | |||
" | "Ahh, I see you two are having a good time." Jenn looked up, and Jerran quickly started to study his console, with a glance to Jenn that seemed to say, 'Boy, are you gonna get it.' | ||
"Oh, hello, Commander," Jenn greeted him. "Would you mind telling us who our new Chief Science Officer is?" | |||
"I think you'll meet her soon enough." | |||
"Oh, come on, Commander." | |||
"No, Lieutenant, I am not telling you who she is, and I suggest you get back to your station." Jenn did sit back down at her station, but she added, "So, it's a female." Maril could have kicked himself for saying "she" and "her", but he just grinned. | |||
"Yes, she is." "Fine." <<<<NRPG:Ha, ha, ha, now I'm sitting in the new chair. Yes, Kristen, I know you thought you would have it forever, but being FO does have its perks(now Zane's gonna come and take the chair from Maril and Andy will note that being CO has even more perks<g>) | |||
MD 1.1700 First Officer's Office | |||
As Maril looked over some information on the Coalsack, he heard the office's "doorbell". | |||
"Enter," he commanded. Lieutenant Meleah walked through the doorway, then stood stiffly at attention in front of Maril's desk. | |||
"At ease, Lieutenant. Please, sit down." The android accepted the chair silently, and waited while Maril cleared his throat before he spoke. | |||
" | "Well, Lieutenant, you are coming at a very opportune time. Our mission is to map the Coalsack, especially the many pirate bases in there. The DELPHI array, unlike most sensor arrays, can cut through the interference. However, it is still inhibited by it, and we will need up-to-the-minute reports. As you may know, the Coalsack is fraught with dangers, and we will need to avoid these as best we can. All of this, as well as the normal duties of the Chief Science Officer, will be part of your job. I would think it rather daunting." | ||
" | "You may want to make modifications to the array, which of course you may do, with the authorization of the Captain and myself. Also, if you have any suggestions in preparing for the Coalsack, do not hesitate to talk to the Captain. We must be ready for anything." | ||
" | "Understood, sir," Meleah affirmed. | ||
" | "Good. Now, you may choose a new ASciO, or any other member of your staff, although your choices are basically limited to this ship, since we have left Starbase already. Your quarters are in room 0541. I suggest you make all of your changes soon, because, in less than two days, we are heading into the Coalsack. Oh, one more thing, Lieutenant. I was a Chief Science Officer before I rose to FO. I do know how it feels," Maril smiled. | ||
" | "Dismissed." | ||
MD 4.0600 | |||
Engineering Warrant Officer Samuel Redaso, a new officer just transferred from Epsilon, stood at a console, looking at the Feynman's emission outputs. They were rather low, though not undetectable. On his service record, everything before his assignment to Epsilon had been listed as *CLASSIFIED*. Everyone had just assumed that he had been on some intelligence mission before. Although he did have some experience in intelligence work, that wasn't why the record was classified. The classification had been made because WO Redaso had been in GREY Fleet before SILVER, and obviously they didn't want the Feynman knowing about that fact. Having known that a communications buoy would be dropped right outside the Coalsack, he had made some modifications. He knew that his GREY Fleet compatriots would want to destroy the buoy, but he had left a coded message in the buoy. He hoped it would convince them to not destroy the buoy. In his message, he pointed out that they would not only be able to tell what was happening to the Feynman, but they would also be able to read his encoded messages embedded in the Feynman communications. Redaso smiled. He had of course relayed the fact that there would be a double shield on the Feynman, but now he would also be able to tell them the new shield frequency. Redaso grinned inward. They didn't even know.... | |||

Place: Bridge (just before entering the sack)<br> | |||
Lt. Meleah watched out the viewscreen while they entered the 'Sack. | |||
She was curious as to what they would find in there, at the same time as | |||
hoping that her science staff were getting along with each other. During | |||
one second, she remembered her meeting with Ens Loth, who appeared to have a | |||
chip on his shoulder about something. He was currently seething about | |||
Meleah starting her shift early because of the early time going into the | |||
'Sack. He had been very nearly openly hostile towards Meleah, as had been | |||
evident by his words. | |||
"An android is replacing me!" he had said with disgust. "I | |||
don't see why, I'm perfectly capable of doing the job." | |||
" | "I do not doubt that you cannot do the job. But I have more | ||
experience in the science field than you do." | |||
" | "That remains to be seen," Loth said snidely. "What are you | ||
doing about the roster?" | |||
" | "I have checked over every crew member's record and decided to | ||
make a few changes. Lt(jg) Swanson is shown to be better | |||
qualified to have the position of ASCI. You have the option | |||
of being the XO for any of the shifts or the CO for GAMMA shift." | |||
" | "You're joking!" Loth exclaimed. | ||
" | "No, I am not." | ||
" | "Well, I'm not working with you, that's for sure. Nor am I | ||
working with Swansen. So I suppose I'll take the GAMMA shift," | |||
he said grudgingly. "Who'll the XO be?" | |||
" | "MCPO Richards," Meleah stated without even consulting the | ||
computer. | |||
"Hmph," was all Loth said to that. | |||
Meleah had found Loth to be fairly disagreeable unlike her new ASCI | |||
who should have probably been a counselor. Nali Swansen had a knack for | |||
getting along with people, and Meleah had decided that she would make a good | |||
assistant, especially with the reports she had been doing each day. Right | |||
now, Nali was working with some engineers on the DELPHI array, just in case | |||
a subspace bubble needed to be initiated to protect the ship from any | |||
damaging warp bubbles. Meleah had read a few weeks ago about a mission | |||
which the USS GAUSS had undertaken into a similiar coal-sack, and the | |||
technique initiated by the XO and CEO to prevent structural damage. There | |||
was no way Meleah was going to be under-prepared for this. | |||
Unlike her job as press agent. The press had had a field day when | |||
the | they found out who was the SCI, and had asked her questions to which they | ||
expectedan answer to because they thought that an android couldn't lie. | |||
They were right about that, but they didn't know that Meleah had been told | |||
which sort of questions to avoid so the press hadn't got any 'dirt' yet. | |||
All of this Meleah reviewed in one second. Part of her was still | |||
concentrating on the readings showing up on her console. For another | |||
second, Meleah reviewed the meeting with Ens Allard about the phaser drill | |||
test. He had sort of seemed pleased with her keeping her qualifications up, | |||
but had seemed surprised that she had gotten 100%, one of the few to do so. | |||
He had thought, what else would you expect from an android, but he hadn't | |||
said anything. | |||
Meleah also remembered her first meeting with the rest of the staff. | |||
Lt Jenn had seemed pleased to see another female as part of the senior | |||
staff, and although Meleah has only basic emotions and not always good | |||
character judgement, she thought that Krysa could become a good friend. Lt | |||
Jerral had seemed a little hostile, and until Meleah was quietly told that | |||
she had beaten his score on the phaser test, she did not know why the | |||
Lieutenant might be feeling that way. | |||
The FEYNMAN was now a couple of seconds closer to the 'Sack. Meleah | |||
hoped that Crysta, a part Bajoran, part Betazoid physics specialist who | |||
looked after the child during ALPHA shift, had Cadence strapped in for the | |||
trip. She had found the child to be an expert in escaping whichever room | |||
she was in, and yesterday, had to pry her away from engineering where Ens | |||
Jared had not been too pleased with a small child trying to investigate the | |||
warp core. | |||
The ship was now only a few seconds away from entering the 'Sack. | |||
Meleah held onto the console with one hand while the other continued to | |||
record information from the sensors. | |||
<<SNIP>> | |||
MD: 4.0612 | |||
The crew on the bridge watched as the shuttles were launched and | |||
proceeded to their designated positions. After a few minutes, Zane asked | |||
Lt. Jenn whether the readings were any better. | |||
" | "Yes, sir. The gas and dust is not providing us with much | ||
interference any more." | |||
---- | |||
NRPG: | |||
(I couldn't think of anything else to add!) | |||
Just giving everyone an insight into how Meleah works. I figured a back | |||
post would put people out of sync with the rest of the story, so I | |||
incorporated it into the current post, the first part of which is set just | |||
before Joseph's post. | |||
BTW: Lt(jg) Nali Swansen is the new ASCI, with Ens Loth (does he have a | |||
first name?) relegated to 2SCI. Swansen will be a registered NPC, as will | |||
MCPO Calab Crysta (female Bjrn/Btzd) who is in the physics science | |||
department in BETA shift, and Cadence's babysitter in ALPHA shift. | |||
Joseph: I hope Meleah getting 100% won't put Jerral's nose out of joint. | |||
Kristen: We might try to see how Meleah and Krysa get along <G>. | |||

Tarrant sat in his office, mind racing. He was needed now more than ever for | |||
the repairs, but he needed that sabatur. Quickly a plan formed. | |||
Rushing back into the heart of engineering, Tarrant started checking different | |||
stations. When he came to Ens. Jerad he whispered "Go with me" | |||
Jeran barely managed to mask his surprise. Before he could ask the | |||
CEO made an announcement. | |||
"Relay Junction J32 is malfuncioning. If we fix it we can get back 25% of our | |||
power through rerouting. If it goes though we'll be out for another 10 hours. | |||
I need someone to go in." | |||
Ensign S'Tal spoke up, "I will go Sir." | |||
Tarrant thought about it, then decided that S'Tal couldn't be the sabatur. | |||
He had hand picked his two alternate CEO's and done in depth checks. | |||
He was just coming out of security back then. | |||
"No ensign. I need you to get that DELPHI back up. We are useless | |||
without our eyes." | |||
Then another voice piped up. It was Warrant Officer Samuel Redaso. | |||
"I'll do it Sir." | |||
Tarrant tried to remember the young man. Nothing seemed to come | |||
into his mind though... could it be him. "Ok Mr. Redaso, go to it." | |||
The officer tried to go through the main doors and was stopped cold | |||
when they didn't open. Luckily S'Tal had cought on. Thank god | |||
for that Vulcan logic. | |||
"The doors are jammed shut from that last blast. Take the | |||
jefferies tubes." | |||
Redaso nodded, and headed toward the tube entrance. | |||
Tarrant walked over to the DELPHI array. It was one of the | |||
few working systems that could access the computer core. S'Tal | |||
was already a steap ahead. | |||
"Nothing on his past sir. All classified." said the Vulcan in hushed tones. | |||
.................<br> | |||
Scene: Jefferies Tube J<br> | |||
Redaso decided it was time to eliminate the FEYNMAN's ability to react | |||
completely. He would destroy the relay section and then hide in | |||
the tubes until the GREY fleet arrived. | |||
He patted his hidden pocket. The phaser was still there. | |||
...................<br> | |||
Scene: Main Engineering<br> | |||
"... and that relay comes to a cross-section at K2." | |||
"Thats about the size of a turbolift shaft. We'll take him there." Said | |||
Tarrant. | |||
"Why not just activate the security forcefields?" asked Ens. Jerad | |||
now in on it all. | |||
S'Tal answered, "The perpitrator obviously has a good deal of | |||
knowledge in engineering, and he has a engineering kit with | |||
him. More than likely he will disable the forcefield. " he | |||
turned "Lieutenant?" | |||
Koreth was gone. | |||
.........<br> | |||
Scene: Corridors<br> | |||
Tarrant ran into the security team just as he overrided the main Engineering | |||
door. "He's in the jefferies tubes, section J." growled Tarrant. He | |||
decided not to mention the fact of the junction at K2. | |||
He would undoubtably reach the section sooner than Radaso. | |||
The tube path from engineering was quite like a maze, and would | |||
take a while. Besides, Tarrant had an Ace in the Hole or so he thought. | |||
"Tarrant to S'Tal" | |||
<S'Tal here> | |||
"Do we have transporters yet." | |||
A pause | |||
<No sir, they are still offline...> | |||
Tarrant cut him off, this was not going to happen. Besides, he prepared, | |||
which was why he tore out of enigineering. | |||
.........<br> | |||
Scene: Main Shuttlebay<br> | |||
Without even a pause the partial Klingon blew through the | |||
surprised flight security crew. He jumped into one of the remaining | |||
shuttles and tried to activate the transporter. It was turned off-line. | |||
<Allard to Koreth, what are you doing Sir?> | |||
Tarrant was more than angered by the lockout. | |||
"Remove the lockout Ensign, I need to use the shuttle's transporter | |||
now!" | |||
The lockout was lifted and Tarrant transported himself to | |||
cross-section K-12. And a second later a surprise, Ens. Allard | |||
transported in. | |||
With a whisper he said "piggybacked" and tossed Tarrant a phaser. | |||
Sounds coming out of the tube entrence above announced | |||
their sabatour's coming. | |||
<NRPG> | |||

SCENE: Bridge<br> | |||
J.C.'s hands flew over the control systems, jumping from weapons, to coordinating the intruder control | |||
teams. Stabilizers were almost gone, and every blow almost bolted everyone from their feet. | |||
"Captain, all Security teams deployed to repel boarders and check for the intruder," Zane acknowledged, | |||
barking other orders. The ship shuddered, J.C. in concert with everyone, grabbed hold of something to fight | |||
the effects of the battle. | |||
He looked down at the TAC display, "Sir, the other ships are making another pass at the Phoenix! Coming | |||
in from 342 mark 5!", Brace yourselves!" | |||
"Helm, 162 mark 4, full impulse! NOW!," from Zane. The FEYNMAN felt | |||
as though it had dropped from beneath them. Stabilizers were gone now, among other things. | |||
J.C. glanced behind him at PO2 Matsumii manning the station behind tactical slaved to intruder control | |||
and internal sensors. "Mr. Matsumii, anything at all yet.?" | |||
"No, Sir. Nothing on motion, infrared, or..wait. Sir I have an abnormal heat source, Jefferies tube I, section 19, nearing the cross tube to J. It's moving, Sir.", Katsummi, always the calm one no matter the situation, though J.C. did notice she was perspiring a bit. | |||
J.C. turned to alert the Captain, stopped by the aborted shuttle transporter access. "Captain, we may have two | |||
intruders". Maril turned, Zane temporarily removed himself from his new char. | |||
"Checking Captain... it's Lt. Koreth. I have two teams enroute to Engineering." J.C. leaned slightly to | |||
the locker below his console, grabbing another Phaser. "Sir, I..." Zane cut him off, "Go ahead Ensign, give | |||
Lt. Koreth a hand.". J.C. glanced over at Katsumii, who moved over to his TAC station. She released the | |||
shuttles lockout, looked up to Allard. He nodded, and the bridge began the familiar fade away... | |||

J.C. noticed the strange look in Koreth's eyes, look of vengeance! Mean even for a Klingon. Koreth | |||
aimed his Phaser. "No," said J.C. surprised at himself, giving the Lt. an order. But his idea just might work. | |||
Koreth turned, shocked also. J.C. was backing up into section K-11, motioning for the Lt. to follow. Koreth | |||
look up, then back to J.C., lowering his phaser. | |||
He whispered to the very ticked off Lt.,"We can wait here and see what he does and catch him in the | |||
act. They moved into the crawl way of the other adjoining section, closing the hatch enough to conceal them | |||
from anyone ejecting down from the tube. | |||
In a few moments, they were regarded with the sight of WO Redaso, Phaser on his belt, and a toolkit | |||
over his shoulder. He turned to the entrance of K-12, opening the access hatch to that section. Koreth started | |||
up, J.C. grabbed the Lt. fiercely, to hold him back. Koreth broke loose and charged at the WO. | |||
Redaso, shocked, went for his Phaser. J.C. took aim, but Koreth's dive blocked his shot. The dive was | |||
good, and Koreth tackled Redaso, full body, with both landing hard on the floor. Redaso's phaser skidded away | |||
beyond his reach. J.C. got up, phaser still leveled at Redaso. He moved to haul up the fallen saboteur. Koreth | |||
too Redaso's arm from J.C. and spun him against the wall. | |||
"YOU are a disgrace. YOU HAVE NO HONOR! Koreth's fist found three and four soft spots in Redaso's | |||
stomach. J.C. bolted between the with all his strength, prying the Lt. from his capture. "MOVE ENSIGN!", J.C. | |||
struggled. "Lt. Koreth, I'll take him. SIR! I'll take care of him.", J.C. to the Lt. | |||
He tapped his comm badge | |||
once, "Bridge, this is Allard. Lt. Koreth and myself have the intruder.". | |||
"Acknowledged, Mr. Allard. Brig him | |||

Again he tapped his badge, "Computer, patch me through to all Security personnel. | |||
This is Allard. Remain at intruder alert status. Patrols one and three, continue as normal. Two, four and | |||
five, concentrate on Engineering, Shuttle bay, and the Sensor decks, respectively. | |||
Redaso, now doubling over did not look up. J.C. look directly into the eyes of Koreth, "Sir. WO | |||
Redaso should have been more careful. He had a nasty fall when he SLIPPED and FELL out of the J. tube." | |||
J.C. bent down, and grabbed Redaso's arm. "Get up Mr. Redaso. You're under arrest. For starters, | |||

"So, Lieutenant, the last section finally arrives. Computer, begin Bridge Officer's Test, Section:Command." | |||
The last setting of the BrOT was unusual. It wasn't the Bridge, it was Sickbay. However, if GLin'kharr thought that it would be easy because he was in his own environment, he was sorely mistaken. | |||
The "ship" shook as someone beamed into Sickbay. Lieutenant Jenn stood silently, with Commander Zane lying beside her. | |||
"What happened?" Glin'kharr asked. | |||
"He was thrown almost across the Bridge when the inertial dampneners failed. Doctor, can you do anything?" | |||
"I can always do something," Glin'kharr growled. | |||
Once the Captain had been lifted onto the biobed, Glin'kharr noticed that Zane's life signs were rapidly falling, near death. | |||
As he reached for the cortical stimulators, Maril contacted him. [Commander, we have intruders. I need you to release anaesthatine gas everywhere except for the Bridge. Is that understood?] | |||
"Yes, sir." It was then that Glin'kharr realized the crisis. It wasn't that he would anaesthatize himself when he released the gas--he could seal off Sickbay. However, it would take time to key in the sequence to release the gas-- | |||
precious time in which the Captain could die. Glin'kharr didn't know what to do, but he did know that he would need to do something--very fast. | |||
MD 4.0900<br> | |||
Bridge<br> | |||
Maril sighed, looking around at the mess that resembled the Bridge. "The owl and the mouse," he said under his breath. | |||
"And the mouse escaping only because an eagle attacked the owl," Zane replied. | |||
Maril nodded. "Constant reports on the situation," he ordered. As others got to work on the repairs, Maril headed to the aft stations. He wanted to know exactly how their every move had been anticipated. Of course, there was probably a saboteur. But Maril was looking for how all the security subroutines had been circumvented and similar information. | |||
He sat down, knowing it wouldn't be easy. | |||
Obviously, the saboteur knew what he/she was doing. There were so many lockouts, passwords, and dead ends, that the thief of Stirabi couldn't have squeaked past them. As Maril was no thief of Stirabi, it was even harder to find his way through. | |||
Jeffries Tube(J2) | |||
Redaso continued his destructive work on the DELPHI array, knowing that, even if someone did catch him, it was too late for the array. As an afterthought, he shut down the internal sensors, placing a lockout on it. Of course, he hadn't been so stupid as to crawl around with his communicator on. It would be nice, though, if they couldn't find him with the heat sensors either. | |||
Down below, Koreth and Allard stood ready to capture Redaso. Koreth signaled for them to move in opposite directions so as to surprise the saboteur. The two started to move. | |||
However, Koreth had just gotten into a Jeffries tube, and Allard was reaching another, when a group of forcefields appeared, surrounding the junction. Allard was trapped, and Koreth had just barely escaped. | |||
They pondered the situation for a second. Who could have set up the forcefields? They had beamed in from a shuttle transporter, hardly accessible.... | |||

bigger surprise. Lt. Jenn has hypothesized that perhaps the captains of | |||
the four ships are not the allies they thought they were. If they had | |||
waited for us to emerge from the 'sack in a few days they would, most | |||
likely, have had to share the information our sensor logs provided. By | |||
attacking early it seems Tremaine hoped to capture the FEYNMAN and gather | |||
the information himself, undercutting his 3 cohorts. Such dissension | |||
could provide us with convenient wedge. | |||
Either way, it was not to be. The PHOENIX was unable to capture | |||
her prize. The bridge crew worked as the finely tuned team that they are | |||
while Lt. Koreth some how managed to keep the ship together. But, and | |||
although I hate to admit it, I don't think we would have escaped from that | |||
tractor beam, regardless of their power-management problems, without the | |||
timely arrival of the Xanthandi. | |||
Of course our immediate good luck leads to greater misfortune. | |||
Namely, why are the Xanthandi so close to the edge of the 'sack? Is it | |||
confidence or lack of concern that has them operating so openly? Its | |||
obvious they knew we were there either through the luck of one of their | |||
patrols or, more ominously, through the monitoring of shipping outside the | |||
'sack. Thank-God, the PHOENIX got away. To add a SOLAR to their fleet, | |||
even with its deficiencies is unthinkable. When I had first viewed | |||
Captain Allison's briefing I had hoped that it was presenting the extreme | |||
situation. It seems it was not. | |||
When we began this mission we were, officially, to survey the | |||
inside of the 'sack in the hopes of mapping hidden pirate bases that have | |||
been hampering shipping. Now, based on the past day's events, we | |||
may find ourselves discovering Xanthandi staging areas. If this is true | |||
we all may find ourselves facing war. I hope I am wrong. | |||
Staffing.... | |||
All indications show that Lt. Meleah is fitting in well | |||
with her colleagues and has already proved to be invaluable by enhancing | |||
the DELPHI array. I've heard through the grape-vine that Ensign Loth has | |||
not taken the arrival of his new CO all that well. Perhaps he may one day | |||
learn patience....and some social skills. Additionally, we have also | |||
received a new CNS, one Ensign Lee. Her fitness report says it all, | |||
another headstrong Bajoran, just what I need! Still we need a Counsellor, | |||
and I am glad she's here. | |||
Unfortunately, her arrival meant that the temporary CNS, Ensign | |||
Ryan was free to return to EPSILON. Aware of the dangers both she and the | |||
EPSILON pilot elected to take their chances and return to the starbase. I | |||
can't say I blame them, the attack by the Xanthandi does not bode well. | |||
Unfortunately it seems that the PHOENIX did not destroy all of the raiders | |||
as we had believed. Three Xanthandi were still in the area, most likely | |||
looking for us, and appeared out of no-where. The GALILEO didn't have a | |||
chance.... | |||
With two attacks I have suspended all shuttle operations for the | |||
time being. We have had a terrible lesson in just how dangerous the 'sack | |||
can be and I will not tempt fate again. If the raiders that destroyed | |||
the shuttle had located us in our still crippled state we may have been | |||
unable to fight them off. From here I am proceeding as if we are at war. | |||
The FEYNMAN was built to be a black ship and for the next few days it will | |||
be. If we are close to war or even a new level of aggression it is vital | |||
that we learn as much as we can and return to EPSILON, without the | |||
Xanthandi realizing they have been comprised. | |||
....end log." | |||

Zane entered the bridge and immediately asked Maril for a report. | |||
"All systems on line, repairs complete. We're operating at Yellow | |||
alert and all emissions are being controlled." | |||
"Good. Mr. Jerran coordinate with OPS and develop a search pattern | |||
that will cover the most space in the least amount of time....with sensors | |||
on passive. Additionally, I want to stay far enough from the perimeter of | |||
the 'sack so that if those four ships are still out there they aren't able | |||
to take anymore pot shots at us. We've got enough problems *inside* this | |||
thing to worry about the outside as well. As soon as your ready get us | |||
underway." | |||
"Aye sir." | |||
"Ensign Allard, how's are prisoner? Any useful information?" | |||
"No sir. All I'm getting out of him is name, rank and serial | |||
number. And the occasional threat that he's got friends in Starfleet | |||
Command that could make or break my career. He is being watched around | |||
the clock so even with his skills he won't be going anywhere." When | |||
Allard had come aboard Zane had him go over every inch of the brig as well | |||
as stepping up training for security in general. Two brig escapes in one | |||
day during the previous mission was something the Captain, and ex-CSO | |||
would not stand for. | |||
Zane frowned. It was the answer he had expected, but not the one | |||
he wanted. "Very well, keep me informed." | |||

>Jennifer nodded to the science officer in the copilot seat, who got up and<br> | |||

>shimmered into view on the transporter pad as Jennifer sent the signal to<br> | |||
>the other shuttles to follow her deeper into the 'Sack.<br> | |||
Right after she had entered the signal Xanthandi raider ships appeared.<br> | |||
Lieutenant Cartwright ordered the science officer to take his post and told<br> | |||
all shuttles to go full alert status<br> | |||
Anna could tell that they probably knew what they were doing a lot better | |||
then she did so she sat in the passenger seat and strapped herself in. | |||
The raider ships began firing. Six distinct phaser beams headed for the | |||
NOGURA II shuttlecraft. Two of them missed the shuttle completely due to | |||
very good manoeuvring by the pilots executed by the pilots a hard roll to | |||
port. The impact of the other blasts was absorbed partially by the shields. | |||
But the shields were weakening. | |||
"We need more power to the shields. Can you divert enough power from life | |||
support to maintain the shields and keep life support systems functional." | |||
asked the Lieutenant | |||
"No, however, I could divert power form the transporters and use it to help | |||
maintain the shields." replied the science officer. | |||
"Ok. do it." said Cartwright | |||
The science got up from his post and began to use the transporter controls | |||
in order to properly divert the power to the shields as the Lieutenant | |||
continued to use evasive manoeuvres and the shuttle's weapons to ward off | |||
the attack. | |||
The shuttle took a direct hit. There was no severe damage to the shuttle | |||
but the science officer was thrown against the side of the shuttle. | |||
"I have training in medical, I'll help him." said Ensign Lee as she grabbed | |||
one of the medical supply units and went over to where the science officer | |||
was. She ran a quick scan of the tricorder and discovered that the science | |||
officer had a concussion and sever damage to his spinal cord. | |||
As Ensign Lee was helping the Science officer, Lt. Cartwright was doing all | |||
she could to avoid the blasts from the Xanthandi ships and protect the other | |||
shuttles. | |||
"This is shuttle Nogura to all shuttles. I'm willing to entertain ideas or | |||
suggestions that anyone might have as to how to make a retreat." announced | |||
Cartwright on a secure channel to the other shuttles as she came to the | |||
realization that the shuttles where outnumbered and outgunned. | |||
NRPG: Some technical babble I made up follows. It was necessary in order | |||
to get all of the shuttles away from the Xanthandi raider ships and get | |||
back to the Feynman. Sorry if it is extremely impossible or doesn't make | |||
any sense. | |||
RPG: | |||
"I have an idea." said Lee Anna and she went over to the co-pilot's | |||
position and made some calculations then continued "You could have the other | |||
shuttles enter into a high sublight speed at 0.02 relative, 75 absolute.. | |||
Then have the shuttles approach us along bearings 240 degrees and 120 | |||
degrees and have them fire off there waste warp plasma at us and use the | |||
outboard pulsing of our shields to create a warp field around the shuttles." | |||
"I see where you're going with this; then the ward field combined with the | |||
deflector shields of our shuttles would cause their phaser blasts to | |||
dissipate before they could have an impact." injected Cartwright. "Then we | |||
could use the warp field again to get us to safety". | |||
"How could it get us to safety?" asked Anna. | |||
"We could move some of the shuttles back and stretch the warp field. When | |||
it stretches out too far. It will pull back in the form of a warp wave | |||
dragging all of our ships way from the raiders while still be protected by | |||
the warp field. Eventually the warp wave will die out and we will be far | |||
from the Raiders and they will have no way of following us. Only problem is | |||
that we have no control where the warp wave will take us, but considering | |||
the alternative. I think that this is our best course of action." explained | |||
Cartwright and she signalled the plan out to the other shuttles. | |||
Lee Anna went back to work on the science officer but there wasn't much she | |||
could do for him he would need a surgeon to repair the damage to his spinal | |||
column and his concussion by itself wasn't serious but he might have a skull | |||
fracture and the limited medical supplies aboard the shuttle couldn't even | |||
tell if he had a skull fracture let alone treat one. The only damage to | |||
the shuttle was to the onbaord replicator which was unfortunate since that | |||
meant that Lee Anna couldn't just replicate what she needed to help the | |||
science officer. | |||
The first part of the plan was successful and the warp wave quickly got the | |||
shuttles away from their attackers; however there was still no telling where | |||
it would stop. | |||
As the shuttles sped along in the warp wave, Anna realized that there was | |||
nothing more she could do for the science officer, so she gave him a | |||
hyprospray that would keep him from feeling any pain even in his unconscious | |||
state and walked over to her chair. | |||
Suddenly the shuttle stopped without warning and Anna who was still | |||
standing was thrown forwards into the backs of the passenger's chairs. | |||
Anna felt a sudden extreme pain in her left leg and then momentarily blacked | |||
out.. | |||
Scene: Sickbay USS FEYNMAN | |||
Anna woke up on a biobed and looked around. | |||
"You're all right. You're aboard the USS FEYNMAN in the sickbay" came the | |||
voice of one of the ship's nurses. "You passed out on the shuttle Nogura. | |||
You had a broken tibia but that's already been taken care of by a ship's | |||
doctor. However, you will have to remain here until I get the Ok for you to | |||
go from one of the doctors or from the head nurse. Oh. you will have to go | |||
easy on your leg for a couple of days. You were lucky. Had this been a | |||
just a few hundred years ago you would have had to wear a cast for weeks. | |||
and well can you tell me your.. | |||
"Could you tell me how I got here, what happened to all the shuttles and | |||
the people aboard them?" interrupted Lee | |||
"Of course. Well, it was amazingly lucky; the warp wave brought all the | |||
shuttles here intact and all of the crew on aboard the shuttles are | |||
alive."replied the nurse | |||
"What about the science officer who was on the Nogura shuttlecraft with | |||
me.? asked Lee Anna | |||
"The majority of the medical staff is still working on his case. You | |||
should ask someone who is working on the case about his condition." said the | |||
nurse obviously trying to hide some bad news. "I know that a lot has | |||
happened in a rather short time frame but I need you to tell me who you are | |||
and why you were coming to the Feynman." | |||
"I'm Ensign Lee I was billeted here to the Feynman as Counsellor." replied | |||
Ensign Lee. | |||
"Ahh, well welcome aboard. I will inform the first officer that you have | |||

Zane was, to say the least, furious with *another* security | |||

go over their department's fitness reports with a fine-tooth comb. If | |||
anything is out of the ordinary and I mean *anything*, including | |||

Maril frowned. As first officer he was in charge of the crew and | |||
as such would have to oversee the departmental checks. Any breaches would | |||

"Aye sir." | |||
"Lt. Jenn anything on sensors?" | |||

"Are we far enough away from the perimeter of the coalsack that | |||
any ship on the other side won't be able to locate us?" | |||
"I can't say definitively sir. However, if they can locate us I | |||
don't think they'll be able to pinpoint us. They may know we're in this | |||
are but they won't know exactly where. I think we're relatively safe." | |||
"Good. Helm, maintain position for 30 minutes and then continue | |||
your search pattern." | |||
"Bridge to engineering." | |||
[Engineering.] came the Klingon's calm voice. | |||
"We've had another security problem..." Briefly Zane explained | |||
the situation. "...I'm hoping they took the shuttle as an avenue of | |||
departure. But, I think we have to look at the possibilty that they | |||
planted some sort of device designed to give our position away or even | |||
damage us...." | |||
[I'll have my teams inspect every centimeter of this ship.] | |||
"Thank-you Mr. Koreth. Bridge out." | |||
Maril turned towards Zane. "What about the ASIMOV?" | |||
Zane sighed. "There flying near-blind in here. I imagine they're | |||
heading out of the sack. Probably to rendezvous with the PHOENIX. AS | |||
much as I want that shuttle back our mission is clear and the longer we | |||
take the more lives our at stake." | |||

<nowiki>* Spirits, How could this happen! We arrested Redaso, but never looked for an accomplice! *J.C. slammed | |||
his fist upon the top of the TAC console. Hard enough to vent a minute bit of frustration, light enough for | |||
his Superiors not to notice. He opened a link to the Security Office. "Allard to CPO Tamarov."</nowiki> | |||
"Tamarov here, Sir." | |||
"CPO, the Captain has put us on Condition 3, double shifts. Notify all Squad Leaders." | |||

needed here on the bridge. From the little he had worked with Alex so far, he was sure he could count on | |||
Tamarov to relay and carry out his orders. | |||
"Mr. Tamarov, you're to hold a briefing in 10 minutes. Your orders are to get Matsumii's squad in the Flight | |||

everything! They're to be in full TAC gear, armor and rifles. They're not to take any chances. Bordeau's | |||
Squad is to be on Sentry Duty, cover entrances to Main Engineering, Flight Deck, Aux. Weapons Control, and the | |||
Sensor Decks. They're to suit up too, 100%. NO ONE gets through those areas without being challenged ... any | |||
problems go through me or the Captain. Finally, I want T'Bocs people to comb Engineering inside and out. Try | |||
not to be in Koreths' peoples way; they're going to be busy patching the ship, but we've got to find out how | |||
that transporter get Redaso. The Captain's gonna want answers, and we WILL have some. | |||
"Got it, Ensign. Orders received and understood." Tamarov sounded pumped-up and energetic. Good, maybe some | |||
results would turn up. | |||
"Mr. Tamarov, one more thing. I want you to dig up anything and everything you can on Redaso. Maybe we can | |||
get some leads from that way. I'll meet with you at 1600." | |||
"Aye, Sir. Tamarov out." | |||
Now things will start happening. J.C. thought for a moment. *I think I'll try to get things happening up | |||

A warning light flashed on Lt. Meleah's display. "Sir, reading a power | |||

"A weapon?" asked Zane spinning to face Ens. Allard. | |||
Quickly Allard ran through the controls, "Dosen't appear to be sir... | |||
more like a tractor beam." | |||
"Could it hold us?" | |||
A little confused, the Ensign replied, "No sir... but they should be | |||

"Do we really want to know who's out there?" Krysa muttered. | |||
Zane ignored the comment. "Lt. Jenn and Lt. Meleah, keep an eye on those | |||
mines out there. "Lt. Jerran, keep us at a safe distance away from the | |||
mines, and Ens. Allard, watch for anything unusual. Put the message on screen." | |||
A chorused "Aye, sir" was heard as the officers acknowledged their orders. | |||
As the picture of a rough looking man appeared on the viewscreen, and | |||
announced himself, Meleah worked at her station to record information about | |||
the mines, while also listening to the man on the screen behind her. The | |||
mines were gradually closing formation as they determined the area in which | |||
the ship could be. Eventually they would find the Feynman. But what if the | |||
mines were somehow 'spirited' away. One couldn't be too sure with pirates | |||
whether they were friendly or not, so it was always worth planning for all | |||
eventualities. | |||
The mines, Meleah worked out, were set into place by the green beams that | |||
had been displayed on the screen before. Therefore, they were unlikely to | |||
be directly controlled by operators on the planet. So if their direction | |||
was changed, the operators wouldn't be able to do much about it, unless | |||
Meleah was underestimating their abilities. A short burst of a high | |||
communications frequency would shatter the mines' controls, therefore | |||
literally pushing them away from the ship. | |||
She then turned her full attention back towards the viewscreen, where an | |||
increasingly animated 'pirate' was talking. | |||
"We don't have to explain our actions to anyone, least of all | |||
Starfleet," he said, the last word being twisted with hatred. "If you don't | |||
leave now, we'll escort you," leaving no doubt as to how they would escort | |||
the Feynman. | |||
"Look, we didn't come here..." Zane broke off as the viewscreen | |||
reverted back to the view of the planet. | |||
"Nice fellow," Allard stated under his breath. | |||
"One minute until the mines reach our shields, Cmdr," said Krysa. | |||
"Cmdr, I believe I can reverse the mines away from the Feynman by | |||
emitting a short, high-frequency transmission which will cause the computers | |||
within the mines to malfunction," Meleah spoke up. | |||
"It had better work. Mr. Allard, emit a high, short frequency burst | |||
far enough out to disable the mines." | |||
"Aye, sir." The crew watched as J.C. pressed a control to emit that | |||
burst. Nothing seemed to happen for few seconds, then Krysa said, "Cmdr, | |||
the mines have stopped and some seem to be drifting away." | |||

The man snorted. [Save your breath Captain, it don't matter who | |||

"We're here on a mapping expedition. We come in the spirit of | |||
peace and friendship." | |||
[Bah! Friends don't coming lurking into their friends 'homes' | |||
unannounced. They way I sees it you screwed up twice. You came here and | |||
ya got caught.] A loud chorus of laughter exploded behind him. [Shut-it! | |||
or ya'll be scrubbing the head for the rest of your stinking lives!] His | |||
men quickly silenced themselves. | |||
"Look, perhaps we could work out some sort of deal. You must be | |||
short on supplies of some sort, maybe medical? Tell me what you want and | |||
I'll help where I can." Of course Zane had no intention of aiding the | |||
'enemy' his hope was to buy some time. | |||
[What we want we take!] | |||
"Than what do you want from us?" | |||

The feeling of relief settled throughout the bridge. They could | |||
escape. | |||
"Any gaps big enough for us to fit through?" | |||
"Not yet....a few more minutes and the right currents." Jenn | |||
replied. | |||
"Can we blast a few mines to make the opening?" | |||
Allard performed a quick scan. "I wouldn't advise it sir. Each | |||
mine is transmitting some sort of energy beam to its neighbours...I think | |||
its a basterized version of the standard Orion mine. We blow one and | |||
it'll most likely trigger the others" | |||
"Can we block the beams?" | |||
"I have analyzed the emmissions. Under normal conditions we would | |||
be able to employ effective counter-measures. Unfortunately the effects | |||
of the coalsack on our actions may in fact trigger the mines rather than | |||
de-activate them." The SCI replied. | |||
"I guess we wait and hope for a hole. Any insights counselor?" | |||
"Despite outward appearances I would say he is very nervous. I | |||
don't think he wants us destroyed....in fact he is scared of this | |||
possibility...there is definitly something he wants from us." Ensign Lee | |||
answered. | |||
"The ship." Maril stated. | |||
Zane nodded. "Makes sense. If what Captain Allison reported is | |||
true. This could be a privateer base linked to the Xanthandi. A | |||
Starfleet vessel would make a nice gift to his superiors and surely be | |||
very profitable for our friend here." | |||
"Captain, the planetoid is emitting a beam! The mines are now | |||
beginning to move towards the base. Aft mines will impact in 8 seconds." | |||
"Mr. Jerran..." | |||
"Aye sir, matching course and speed." | |||
"We are being hailed sir." | |||
"On screen." | |||
[Well captain, I politely asked you to leave and your still here. | |||
I guess that means ya'd like to come in.] | |||
"I can not allowed this ship to be taken." | |||
[Then ya got yourself a wee problem!] This time he let his men | |||
laugh. | |||
"Not as big as yours when you try to explain to your Xanthandi | |||
boss how you let a Starfleet vessel get away." | |||
[You can't get away.] He laughed, a little less confidently. | |||
"Perhaps not, but as I said this ship will not be taken even if it | |||
means scuttling her." | |||
[Your bluffing.] He protested. | |||
"I've got nothing to lose. You do. Close channel" | |||

Finallly, he raised his head from the PADD he was holding. | |||
"Congratulations, Mr. Glin'kharr, you have passed the Bridge | |||

Glin'kharr was a bit dazed. He hadn't expected this. | |||

Bridge<br> | |||
Maril watched the escape of the Feynman closely. It appeared that they | |||
would be able to avoid the mines as they headed away from the pirate base. | |||
However, this was not to be. Just as Jerran rerorted, "We are clearing the field of mines, sir," the ship rocked intensely. | |||
"Report, Ensign! Was that a mine?" the Captain cried as others got back to their stations. | |||
"No, sir. Three small ships just appeared and fired at us. Attempting to lock onto them. The interference is making it tough," Allard reported. | |||
"Do it, Ensign! Where did they come from?" Zane ordered crisply as the ship shook again. | |||
"They were masked by a gravitational eddy. Also, the mines blocked many of the sensors while they surrounded us," Maril answered. | |||
"I've got a lock on one of them, sir. Firing phasers and 3-photon spread." | |||
"Mr. Jerran, become the strong wind of Asala. Take us wherever the wind blows!" Maril ordered. | |||
"Target destroyed!" | |||
"Sir, shields are down to 10%. Impulse engines are almost inoperative!" Jenn reported. | |||
"I've got a course set, sir. I'm using what little impulse power we have." | |||
"Zane to Engineering. I want as much impulse power as possible. Is that understood?" | |||
[Understood, sir. Diverting power to the-] | |||
The communication was interrupted by a third rocking. Officers flew from their stations. Sparks were everywhere. | |||
"Sir, shields are offline! We have intruders!" Allard reported. | |||
Four privateers beamed onto the Bridge, one aft, one near Ops, one above the Ensign Lee, and one a few feet in front of Maril. | |||
"Duck, Commander!" Allard shouted as he fired at the one in front of Maril, unaware of the one less than five feet behind him. | |||
Luckily, the privateer near Maril fell, but so did Allard after the one behind him stunned him. | |||
As the one aft looked around, one of the other two grabbed Jenn by the neck, adding the statement, "If you don't turn over control, she dies." | |||

MD: 5.1230<br> | |||
CPO Alex Tamarov, watch officer at Security Control, bolted at the Intruder-alert alarm sounding. He | |||
startled the two Midshipmen, Hensley and Krogriy as he got up. "Tamarov to all security, INTRUDER ALERT! I | |||
have Phaser fire on the Bridge; it may have been taken!", he grabbed deep breath. | |||
"T'Boc and Matsumii, get | |||
your squads up to the BRIDGE FLANK! T'Boc take the foreword lift, Matsumii take the aft one!" he was | |||
standing in front of his console, not bothering to sit. Alex wiped his forehead. "Security to Transporter 1," | |||
Tamarov hoped this would work. | |||
[Transporter 1 here,] Ens. Fuhrman. | |||
"Sir, INTRUDER CONTROL, Bridge. Can you get a lock on the boarders?" Alex almost caught himself crossing his | |||
fingers, foolish gesture. | |||
[Stand by, Security, checking..] said Fuhrman. Moments that passed like days slid by before the Transporter | |||
Chief replied, [Mr. Tamarov, they boarders have some sort of personal dampening field. No lock is possible.] | |||
Alex pounded his fist onto his console! Damn! | |||
"Ensign, can you try for just their energy weapons?" Alex asked, a last attempt. | |||
[No can do Chief, same field blocks their weapons, too!] | |||
"OK, Ensign, can we send someone onto the Bridge?" *Spirits, please allow this one...* | |||
[Sure Chief, but how can...] | |||
"Belay that, Ensign! I'm on my way. I need you to beam my squad into the bridge, behind each of those scum | |||
bag 'privateers'." and closed the channel, not waiting for a reply. Alex started for the door, but stopped | |||
at the two Middies, who sat quietly, out of the way. | |||
"I'm sealing Security behind me. Get two rifles from the armory, then guard this place." Double Yes Sirs | |||
resounded as they fled for weapons. Grabbing his own rifle, Alex bolted through the door, tapping his badge, | |||
"Computer, seal Security Control, Authorization Tamarov Gamma-1923." <Acknowledged, Security Control is now | |||
inaccessible> | |||
"Tamarov to PO-1 Bordeau." | |||
The squad leader's voice came instantly, but with a slight gasp, as though she was out of breath. [...Bordeau | |||
here, Chief.] | |||
"Amberi, we're going to retake the bridge. T'Boc and Matsumii's squads are going up the lifts. I'm going to | |||
join yours and we'll beam in. Get your squad to Transporter 1 NOW. I'll meet you there in six minutes!", | |||
Alex gasped himself, running for the lift. Once inside, he fell against the wall, out of breath. The lift | |||
deposited him on deck on deck Six. Rested slightly, he ran for the Transporter Room. The doors opened to | |||
emit him to a Transporter Chief leveling a Phaser II at him. | |||
"Whoa, Fuhrman, it's ME! Tamarov." He skidded to a stop and held his rifle above his head in surrender! | |||
"Just being cautious, Mr. Tamarov. Where's your squad?" asked Ens. Fuhrman, holstering his sidearm. | |||
"They'll be here any second. Can you put us behind them?" Alex asked, coming around to view the panel. | |||
"Their protection fields extend about two meters around them. I can get you about 2.5 meters away from each." | |||
said Fuhrman. | |||
"That will do." Alex held up his rifle, checking the setting indicator, he slid it all the way up to 16 | |||
(kill), paused a moment, then back down two notches to Maximum Stun. | |||

Lt. Jenn struggled against her captor. She needed to break free more than ever. Her captor needed a | |||
shower, bad! She tried to bend, turn and plant her knee in his groin, but his grip was too tight. "Release | |||
me, you pig!" | |||
"Hey, we have a feisty one here, kinda cute too!" said the disgusting one, probably the leader. Maril started | |||
to get up, but stopped at Zane motioning him to stay put. | |||
Zane then rose himself, "What's the meaning of | |||
this! Get off my ship. I will not negotiate with you at all.!" As he got up from his chair, the privateer | |||
beside Jennn and her captor leveled his weapon at Zane. | |||
"Commander, you better sit back down, or you'll be negotiain' with hole in your head." | |||
Zane grudgingly complied, "No one take any action. That's an order." The leader grinned, "That's better." | |||
He motioned to the one how had taken out J.C. | |||
"Come down here and check on him," pointing to their fallen | |||
comrade, laying on the deck in front of Maril. | |||
He looked up at his leader, "O.K. Cal." Cal shot a blast | |||
millimeters from the other Pirate's head. | |||
"Shut UP!, you Idiot! I said no names! Next time I won't miss!" | |||
The Pirate touched his head slightly where the beam had barely missed. Angry at being rebuked by his leader, | |||
he gave J.C.'s unconscious form a sharp kick to the side on his way down. He bent to check his stunned | |||
comrade," He's OK, just stunned boss". He got back up and stood behind Maril. | |||
Cal turned his attention to Zane, aiming his weapon at Jenn's forehead. "Now, Commander. Surrender. No | |||
conditions." | |||
Before Zane could speak, Maril shouted "You know we cannot surrender, especially to scum like | |||
you." Zane turned to silence the XO, except the butt of the nearby Pirates' rifle beat him to it. With a whop | |||
to the back of the head, Maril was out, slumped against his chair. | |||
"Commander, shut your people up, or I will shut them up for good!"... | |||

"Course laid in." Jerran answered as his fingers flew across the | |||

"The information we were sent to find is sitting back there. Now | |||

Zane motioned for a security team to head down to engineering as there was | |||
no report from Lt. Koreth. Then the rest of the bridge staff went into | |||
action. | |||
Medical staff had already stepped onto the bridge and were checking out | |||
Ens. Allard and Cmdr. Maril as Krysa straightened her uniform and took her | |||
place at Ops while security gathered up the four pirates to take them to | |||
the brig. “I’ll show you cute,” she muttered. | |||
Jerran chuckled, “Well, you can’t fault him for pointing out the obvious.” | |||
Krysa shot him a look. “Don’t start with me, Terri,” she said sternly, but | |||
he could tell by her smile, that she was pleased at the sideways | |||
compliment. | |||
“Sir the three ships are still waiting. Perhaps for a signal from the | |||
intruders,” Jerran reported. | |||
“We can’t take much more from them, sir.” Jenn said, her face furrowed in a | |||
frown. “Shields are still off-line, and without any help from engineering | |||
we’re sitting pretty helpless.” | |||
Zane nodded, “Mr. Jerran, can you get us drifting. I want to appear more | |||
then helpless.” | |||
“Aye, sir,” said Jerran with a grin. Playing helpless was easy. | |||
“I’m fine,” came a growl behind them. The turned to see Ens. Allard, | |||
pushing away the medical team. He shook his head a bit and stood to take | |||
his station. Zane looked at him questioningly. | |||
“I’m fine, sir. Honest. It was only a stun setting.” | |||
Zane looked at the med tech who shrugged, not willing to make an issue out | |||
of it. It was true Allard had only been stunned. And while the medical | |||
officers liked to check out stun victims thoroughly, it wasn’t very often | |||
an option on Starships. “Very well, Ens. See what you can do about our | |||
weapons systems.” | |||

MD: 5.1215 ?<br> | |||
The intruders had beamed into engineering | |||
and caught the Federation officers by surprise. Tarrant | |||
was working in a nearby jefferies tube when the attack | |||
came. The commotion caused the CEO to backtrack | |||
a little towards the main part of Engineering. | |||
"...and make sure we have the bridge." It was a | |||
rough voice, but sounded more like the person was | |||
trying to be that way. | |||
Tarrant managed to get close enough to see some of the | |||
situation. There were five of them that he could see, and | |||
by the voices he guessed three more out of sight. | |||
WO Dunnon, always the impulsive one unfortunately, | |||
spoke up "You can't do this. When Starfleet gets... AGH" | |||
The sound of a blunt object striking one's skull silenced the | |||
shield specialist. | |||
"STARFLEET... Your *precious* STARFLEET won't come here!" | |||
The voice was pure hatred. | |||
Tarrant could only sit there for the moment hoping that | |||
no one else would make such an impulsive move. He was | |||
wrong. | |||
Ens. Jerad thought it prudent to take action and attacked | |||
Dunnon's attacker. Unfortunately the Ensign was not | |||
overy adept at the fighting arts and was quickly thrown off. | |||
Tarrant saw his ACEO thrown into his field of vision. | |||
Then a second later a phaser blast vaporized him into | |||
nothingness. | |||
Tarrant bit down, stifleing the need to attack. | |||
"You IDIOT! We are suppost to be on *stun*!" Another | |||
phaser shot, but at lower power, shot out from beyond | |||
the Klingon's point of view. The shot hit the Engineering | |||
Communication's panel sending it into sparks. | |||
The trying-to-be-rough-voice sounded again. "Enough of | |||
this. Get Engineering secure. You two, get these prisoners | |||
over there." | |||
Tarrant backed up into the tube, and headed for another | |||
junction. He had to help get Security in there. After running | |||
through the maze Tarrant ended up in the walkway near | |||
Engineering. Carefully stryfing the wall the CEO shifted once | |||
again into the tactical roll. | |||
Ironicly he thought that he'd been doing this a lot lately. | |||
Just then he had to duck back as Engineering doors came | |||
into view. The two Security officers layed unconscious | |||
on the floor as two pirates had taken up their slots. Both | |||
human, or as far as Tarrant could tell, and with phaser | |||
rifles. | |||
He wanted to get Security, but if the rest of the bridge was | |||
in such a shape, then there might not be any help. | |||
From Engineering Tarrant could pretty much retake the ship | |||
with little help.... but that was the trick. | |||
It was now or never... "please... please don't shoot me." | |||
the voice Tarrant used sounded like a combination of | |||
Lt. Jenn and Cmdr. Maril. He was not an actor. | |||
For added affect he used his rather rough voice | |||
for a laugh. Then set up in position. One of the guards came | |||
arround and Tarrant didn't hesitate. He lept foreward like a | |||
tiger surprising the guard. Getting in close enough, the | |||
partial Klingon eliminated any chance of the long rifle shooting | |||
him. One powerful blow to the man's neck was all it took. | |||
He wouldn't die quickly, but the esophagus was now crushed, | |||
and would slowly suffocate him. Tarrant grabbed the dropped | |||
rifle and took up position again. | |||
"What the hell was that?" the second guard came around | |||
more cautiously. | |||
They fired at the same time. Tarrant found himself struck in the arm, | |||
where'as the pirate guard was hit dead center. The | |||
situation made the CEO think of Ens. Allard's firearm | |||
qualification test. He grinned as the pain from the blast came. | |||
It was more of a grimace. A little smore arose from | |||
his hurt arm. | |||
Just then three security officers came around the corner and | |||
nearly shot him. At least now he had backups | |||
to retake Engineering. If they didn't react and kill him first. | |||

Scene: Bridge<br> | |||
Meleah stod motionless as the pirates beamed onto the bridge. She saw one | |||
right behind Allard but wasn't quick enough to stop him from being stunned. | |||
The pirate then turned around and trained the phaser on her. "I wouldn't | |||
come any closer, sister." | |||
Meleah tilted her head to one side, a confused look on her face. "Why would | |||
you not come any closer?" | |||
The pirate gave a short laugh. "You think you're real smart, don't you?" | |||
"As a matter of fact...." Meleah's sentence was cut off by Zane. | |||
"Don't say anything, Lieutenant." | |||
Meleah saw that it was a tense situation and wisely decided not to say any more. | |||
<<SNIP>> | |||
As Jerran threw one pirate away from him, Meleah moved forward to make sure | |||
the other one would not cause any trouble but fortunately, the pirate was | |||
knocked down. Keeping out of the way of the phaser fire, she went around to | |||
the pirate who was still clutching his stomach, and grabbed him in a | |||
forceful hold. "Are you alright, Lt?" she asked Krysa. | |||
"I think so." | |||
One of the security officers came to escort the pirate Meleah held to the | |||
brig, while Zane pieced together reports from around the ship. | |||
>"Still trying to get reports from the rest of the ship, sir," Allard said,<br> | |||
>groggy from the effeects of the stun shot. "Lieutenant Glin'kharr reports<br> | |||
>that sickbay is secure. I have not heard anything from engineering,<br> | |||
>though, from either the security teams I sent down or from LT Koreth."<br> | |||
><br> | |||
>Zane tapped his badge as the rest of the birdge crew got back to their<br> | |||

><br> | |||
>Every eye was on the commander as the comm remained silent...<br> | |||
Although no-one openly showed nervousness as to what may have occurred in | |||
engineering, it could be felt by everyone, including Meleah. There were | |||
very few explanations for the CEO's non response. | |||
Allard and Maril were sent down to Engineering to look for Koreth. Meleah | |||
then stepped forward. "Cmdr, I believe that I could be of some use as part | |||
of the security team." | |||
Zane comsidered. He remembered her training as a security officer, and had | |||
heard of her proficiency in the phaser test. "Okay." | |||
"Thank-you, sir." Meleah went directly to the turbolift, and met up with | |||
the others just outside Engineering. | |||
Allard eased himself around the entrance and just as Meleah and Maril | |||
followed him into Engineering, there was a volley of phaser fire. Both | |||
officers managed to avoid the fire but there were a couple of unfortunate | |||
security officers who didn't. Those in Starfleet returned fire at the three | |||
pirates that they could see, and eventually one was hit. When he went down, | |||
the other two ran. | |||
Allard stood up and started following them, half of his team automatically | |||
following his lead. "Ockjii," he said to the Andorian officer, "you take | |||
half the team and search engineering. Lt, you stay here," he said as he was | |||
already at the exit where the pirates had gone. | |||
Meleah looked around her. Many of the Engineering staff were lying down, | |||
but at this point she was unable to tell who was injured, or even dead. | |||
While security started searching, she started looking for the injured. And | |||
for Lt. Koreth. | |||
She heard what sounded to be like a volley of phaser shots, a far distance | |||
away, and went towards the sound. Her phaser in her right hand, she | |||
cautiously looked around the corner and saw Koreth, a few security guards, | |||
and some bodies lying on the floor. "I take it you won," she observed. | |||
"For the moment," Koreth replied. "There shouldn't be too many more," | |||
fingering his phaser as if willing the pirates to come out. | |||
"Ens Allard and Cmdr Maril are currently chasing two more intruders who were | |||
in the main part of engineering." | |||
"Then we have a chance. Follow me." | |||
The small group advanced carefully towards main engineering, and when they | |||
found no-one there but a few Starfleet officers still lying on the ground, | |||
Koreth advanced to the main control panel. "They've blown communications, | |||
shields, and came close to damaging the main links to the engines. As it | |||
is, we don't have enough power to go to warp." Motioning to the security | |||
officers, he said, "Watch for those pirates. Lt," turning back to Meleah, | |||
"I'll need some help getting the engines back to full power." | |||
Before they could get started, two pirates (different ones from before) came | |||
into view. One security officer was downed before the others opened fire. | |||
With deadly accuracy, Meleah shot both of the pirates, her phaser only on | |||
stun. Had it not been, the pirates would have been dead instantly. | |||
Immediately afterwards, she noticed that Koreth was favouring his injured | |||
arm but upon recalling that he was part Klingon, and Klingons tend to ignore | |||
minor injuries, she did not say anything, and they started working on the | |||
engines. | |||

“Thanks Bat, it was wonderful.” Krysa told the Bartender, then added, “As | |||
usual.” | |||
Bat grinned happily, “Always a pleasure, my dear.” | |||
“Unfortunately it didn’t help. I still have a headache.” | |||
Bat laughed. “You are the only woman I know who tries to cure a headache | |||
with food.” | |||
Krysa grinned, “Don’t laugh, it usually works.” She sighed, “Ah well, I’m | |||
sure it’s just from where that creep grabbed my neck. I’m going to go to | |||
sickbay and get something for it.” | |||
“Probably a good idea.” | |||
Krysa waved as she headed out of 10-Forward. She rubbed her temple where | |||
the pounding only seemed to be getting worse. This was the second one in so | |||
many days. Luckily the first had gone away after that delicious piece of | |||
hot apple pie. This one would even budge after a large dish of Bat’s | |||
special Irish stew. | |||
Krysa walked into Sickbay and was met by Dr. Glin’kharr. “What are you | |||
still doing on duty, Doctor.” | |||
“A doctor’s work is never done, Lt. What can I do for you?” | |||
“I have this horrible headache that I can’t seem to get rid of.” She | |||
explained. | |||
“What have you taken for it?” | |||
“Well, actually only Bat’s stew,” she grinned. | |||
Raising an eyebrow at her, Glin’kharr decided not to ask. He pulled out a | |||
hypospray. Checking it carefully first, Glin’kharr put it to Krysa | |||
shoulder. “This should take care of it in a blink.” | |||
“I hope so.” | |||
“Are you prone to headaches?” | |||
Krysa nodded, “Though not so much as I used to be. I’m sure you’ve read in | |||
my records about my head injury when I was 16. I got horrible headaches for | |||
several years following. Still get them every so often.” | |||
“How do you usually take care of them?” | |||
Krysa grinned, “Usually they’ll go away if I eat something.” | |||
“Interesting.” | |||
“Though I did get grabbed by the neck today during the intruder alert.” She | |||
pushed her dark hair back from her neck so Glin’kharr could see the bright | |||
plum bruise that had formed on the back left side of her neck. | |||
“I see. You should have gotten that taken care of earlier.” | |||
“I didn’t have time.” | |||
The doctor growled, “I’m sure. But you still need to have things like this | |||
taken care of. One of these days it might be serious.” | |||
“Yes, sir.” said Krysa with a smile. She quickly took it off her face when | |||
Glin’kharr didn’t smile back. | |||
“Tip your head this way, please.” Krysa did exactly as he asked while he | |||
tended to her bruised neck. | |||
When he finished, he asked, “How’s your headache?” | |||
“Completely gone. Even faster the a hot fudge sundae,” she chuckled. | |||
“Of that I have no doubt,” said Glin’kharr. | |||
Krysa thanked the doctor and left for her quarters to get a short nap | |||
before they arrived at the base. | |||

The pirate ships were quite easy to evade now that their crews were all on | |||
the FEYNMAN trying to reap its technological treasures, with little | |||
success. The mines were a little bit more difficult to dodge, though, as | |||
they were stil under the control of the pirate base. Even under minimal | |||
impulse power, LT Jerran was able to maneuver away with only a couple of | |||
them exploding, causing minimal damage to the ship's shielding. | |||
"We've cleared the minefield, Captain," he reported. "Proceeding on the | |||
elliptical orbit you specified. ETA back at the pirate base, 11 hours, | |||
57.9 minutes and counting." | |||
"None of the pirate ships are pursuing," LT Jenn added. | |||
Zane nodded and said, "It would appear that they sent all their people | |||
over to try and capture us. So much the better." | |||
"Security reports coming in from Engineering, sir," Tamarov reported. | |||
"They say they've got the situation mostly in hand, with a few stragglers | |||
yet to be accounted for. They've managed to do some moderate damage to | |||
the warp core. We won't have that back online for a few hours, at least." | |||
"LT Jenn, divert all remaining power from the fusion reactors to the | |||
sensor systems and bring the emergency reactors and batteries up to full | |||
standby just in case something happens." | |||
"Aye, sir," the OPS officer said. | |||
<NRPG> | |||
Welllll, I know this was short and sweet, but I just wanted to set it up | |||

Meleah stepped out of the turbolift onto the bridge. Because some of the | |||
other senoir officers were in need of medical attention, she had been called | |||
upon to command Beta shift. Because she did not need any sleep, and was not | |||
damaged, she was a logical choice for the position. LtCmdr Maril was in the | |||
command chair, and he stood up when Meleah came into view. "Cmdr, Dr. | |||
Glin'kharr wishes you to go down to Sickbay as soon as your shift has finished." | |||
"Thank-you," he replied and proceeded to inform her of the situation | |||
(nothing had really happened so far). He then left the bridge and Meleah | |||
seated herself in the command chair. This was her first command shift on | |||
the Feynman, and in an unusual sort of way, she was looking forward to it. | |||
She made the usual department checks, keep an eye out for the pirates, and | |||
generaly had a uneventful shift. But she didn't get bored simply because | |||
she couldn't get bored. | |||
At 0030 hours, as her extended shift was up, she tapped her badge and said, | |||
"Bridge to Cmdr Maril." | |||
There was a few seconds wait, then a groggy sounding voice said [Yes] | |||
"We are exactly thirty minutes away from the pirate base. The Captain | |||
informed me that all senior officers were to be on the bridge, if possible, | |||
when we arrived." | |||
[I'm on my way.] | |||
Meleah then switched her attention to Zane. "Bridge to Cmdr Zane." | |||
[Yes?] sounded a voice that indicated he was wide awake. | |||
"We are twenty-nine minutes away from arrival" | |||
[Thank-you, Lt.] | |||
A few minutes later, Zane, Maril, Krysa, and Allard arrived. Jerran had | |||
arrived slightly earlier than the others and was already seated at his | |||
station. Meleah relinquished the chair, which she had investigated during | |||
her shift, and took up her chair at the science station as Ens Loth was | |||
still in sickbay. | |||

"Commander, I want you to lead an | |||

"Sir, don't you think we would be like the | |||

"Yes, you probably would stick out. However, | |||
our mission is to infiltrate, and that's what | |||
we'll do." | |||
"Aye, sir. Now, hmm...Mr. Allard, Mr. | |||
Jerran, and Mr. Lee, you're with me. I'd also | |||
like an NCO each from the Engineering department, | |||
the Science Department, and the Security | |||

"We will also need appropriate clothing. I'd | |||
like you to find that, Ensign Lee. And also we | |||
will need a way to sneak into the base without | |||
anyone realizing that we beamed in from the | |||
Feynman. Lt. Meleah, that's your job." | |||
"Develop a cover character for each of | |||

and for efficiency's sake, we will keep ourselves | |||
in a rough chain of command. We will go over | |||
everything at 0200 hours and we will depart at | |||

"Yes, sir," was heard throughout the Bridge. | |||
"Do you think you could have been a little | |||

got to their duties. | |||
Maril shrugged. "I just didn't want to | |||
forget anything." | |||
MD 6.0245 | |||
Pirate Base:Cargo(Loot?) Hold 4 | |||
Maril, along with the six other officers, | |||
stood, looking around at what these pirates had | |||
stolen over time. Of course, the pirates could | |||
have kept the loot on their ships, but they | |||
probably wanted to keep things light, and so used | |||
the cargo to buy things and pay for food. This | |||
was that loot--the loot that had been used as | |||
currency on the base. | |||
Finally, someone found the door. It would | |||
have been hard to get in from the outside, but | |||
being inside, that wasn't a problem. Maril | |||
ordered the Engineering officer to try to find | |||
some way to allow them to get back in if they | |||
needed to. He wasn't greedy; he simply thought | |||
they might need to get back in at some point. | |||
Maril had chosen to act the part of a tough | |||
pirate captain who had gotten into many a battle-- | |||
just not any that anyone on the base could | |||
remember. | |||
"Everyone, out, now!" he yelled in a grumpy | |||
tone. | |||
By this time, the Engineering officer had | |||
finished. No one was surprised by Maril's tone of | |||
voice; they just acted their parts and grumbled as | |||
they shuffled out of the hold. | |||
"C'mon, you lot of traitors, get to the | |||
