The ship shuddered violently as Jerran eased her in at one quarter impulse
power. The main viewscreen flickered with static, worsening as they went
in deeper into the thick gas and dust of the Coalsack.
"LT Jenn, can you clear that up some?" the Captain said as he leaned
forward unconsciously, squinting at the screen.
"Trying, sir," she said as her hands raced over the OPS board, a puzzled
look on her face. The ship shook slightly as it was hit by a small
gravitational eddy as Jenn shook her head and said, "That's as good as it
gets, sir. The gas and dust create some very massive static electricity
jolts which wreak havoc with our visual sensors."
"My tactical sensors aren't faring any better, sir," Allard said from the
security console. "I'm trying to tap into the DELPHI array to enhance the
scans."
"Navigational sensors?" the CO said as he and everyone else on the bridge
glanced over at the FCO.
Jerran raised an eyebrow as he casually flew the ship through the 'Sack
and said, "My sensors are being effected in a similar manner, but I am
able to navigate us safely around any obstacles."
"Of course," the Captain said, expecting no other answer from the Vulcan.
"Sir, I would like to make a suggestion to enhance our sensor
capabilities, however."
"Yes, Mr. Jerran?"
"The shuttlecraft, sir. When the NOGURA II arrived from EPSILON, it was
loaded with a cargo section full of extra sensor equipment specifically
for shuttles. They are nowhere near as good as the DELPHI, but I believe
that we could slave rig the shuttles sensors together to act as relays for
the DELPHI array. Flying in a standard diamond formation around
the FEYNMAN we could theoretically cover twice the volume of the DELPHI
alone. In addition, once the DELPHI finds something of interest, we can
send in one of the shuttles to investigate it closer while the FEYNMAN
and the other shuttles continue on their way."
Commander Zane nodded and said, "Fascinating, Lieutenant. How long till
the shuttles are ready to launch?"
Jerran smiled slightly and said, "Five minutes, sir. I had them at ready
five just in case we might need them."
Zane chuckled and said, "The day you're not one step ahead of the program,
Mr. Jerran, will be the day LT Jenn is sitting in your chair."
"Prophets forbid, sir," Jerran said with a wink to the second officer as
he typed in the launch commands to the shuttlebay.

Andy: Loved how you sent us ahead three days like that. Makes up for that
1 day which seemed like an eternity on our last mission ;) I do see this
one as being a rather long mission, MD wise. We've got a lot of dust and
gas to scan :)
