| Activities:
| |
| Minna is something of a bookworm, and doesn't get out much. While she may
| |
| border on being socially inept (never even dated at age 32), she has lived
| |
| many lives vicariously through books, which are her passion. In addition,
| |
| she is an accomplished floutist, having played with the Seoul Philharmonic
| |
| Orchestra, and for the two years she spent at Cal Tech, she performed with
| |
| the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra as guest soloist on five occasions.

| |
|
| |
| 37: Completed AOT and ALB Training, awaiting assignment.
| |
|
| |
| B. Background Summary:
| |
| -----------------------
| |
|
| |
| Minna Chang was something of a prodigy, though by the choice of her parents
| |
| she was only advanced in academic grade once, more than that, in her
| |
| mother's opinion, would cause too many developmental problems. Still, as
| |
| early as Junior High School Minna was submitting entries to Federation Math
| |
| contests, and winning. By her first year of High School she had published
| |
| papers in both math and physics.
| |
|
| |
| After a BS, a dual MS and two doctorates, all while playing flute
| |
| semi-professionally, Minna felt a strong need to leave the confines of the
| |
| solar system, and took a job with Starfleet, which eventually led to her
| |
| commissioning through the AOT program.
| |
|

| |
|
| |
| A. Promotion History:

| |
| 40601 Commissioned as Ensign (O-1).
| |

|
| |
| C. Medals and Commendations:
| |
| -----------------------------
| |
| Hawking Award (Civilian)
| |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------
| |
| V. Skills Profile
| |
| ------------------
| |
|
| |
| Minna Chang is simply brilliant. She was admitted to MENSA at the age of 6,
| |
| has an IQ of roughly 230. Her talents are primarily mathematical, however
| |
| she has also excelled in music, which in her opinion, is perhaps the
| |
| ultimate expression of mathematics. Despite her intelligence, she is a poor
| |
| strategist, and is easily defeated in Western Chess, Paduk (Japanese Go) or
| |
| even simpler games such as checkers.
| |
|
| |
| She also suffers, or benefits, from a rare condition called Esper-Blindness,
| |
| which means that she is completely inaccessible to telepathic and empathic
| |
| penetration. Telepaths simply are not even aware of her presence, and
| |
| cannot project or read thoughts or emotions. This is naturally occurring,
| |
| though exceedingly rare, affecting perhaps one in every billion humans. She
| |
| has absolutely no psionic ability herself, and with this condition,
| |
| absolutely never will.
| |
|
| |
| She is also extremely well-read, prefering the safety of adventuring in
| |
| books to real life. It was two-years-ago, when her older brother was
| |
| reported MIA, that Minna realized that she hadn't even begun to live. That
| |
| even sparked her desire to see the universe, and while still very timid, she
| |
| has done her best to step out.
| |
|
| |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------
| |
| VI. Recent Fitness Report
| |
| --------------------------
| |
|
| |
| I don't know why Cadet Chang is here, as a science post aboard a starship is
| |
| not what her education was aimed at. Still, she is eager and while timid,
| |
| tries her best.
| |
|
| |
| Physically, military life is difficult for Cadet Chang as she is not strong
| |
| or athletic, and borders on anorexic. Still, she is healthy and has no
| |
| apparant defects.

| |
|
| |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------
| |
| VII. Psychological Profile
| |
| ---------------------------
| |
|
| |
| Cadet Chang is very timid and shy, but strangely, my telepathic abilities
| |
| are not capable of penetrating her thoughts. She did not test as
| |
| telepathic, but it is as though she is simply not there.
| |
|
| |
| Using more conventional analysis, I believe that Cadet Chang is capable of
| |
| serving as a Science Officer on a Starfleet ship, I'm just not sure why she
| |
| wants to.

| |
|
| |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------
| |
| VIII. Current Recreational Interests
| |
| -------------------------------------
| |
|
| |
| Minna still plays her flute semi-professionally, and actually gave a recital
| |
| the week before her AOT class in San Francisco, which was attended by many
| |
| of the highest ranking starfleet officers and politicians in that city.
| |
|
| |
| When not practicing, or reading, she is usually researching whatever burning
| |
| mathematical or physics question has aroused her curiosity.

| |
|
| |
| Interests:
| |
| 20th century rollerblading
| |
| kickboxing (21st century styles)
| |
| writing short stories
| |
|
| |
| Mental Abilities
| |
| Brief Description:
| |
|
| |
| Loren has full Betazoid telepathic abilities, rating more or a less an
| |
| average score among Betazoids in the implementation and use of his
| |
| abilities. This average rating is remarkable considering his background
| |
| and upbringing in the Klingon Empire.
| |
|
| |
| History
| |
| Brief Description:
| |
| Loren Landers was found on the SS PURUL, a derelict trading ship within
| |
| the boundaries of the Klingon empire at the tender age of 3 years. The
| |
| commander of the klingon bird of prey that found the vessel claimed Loren
| |
| as 'salvage' the rest of the ship being too damaged by unknown forces for
| |
| any kind of salvage. The klingon commander, Moff, named the pale,
| |
| injured child Loren Landers after one of the names on the crew manifest
| |
| for the ship.
| |
|
| |
| For Loren this left him to be raised on the klingon homeworld, Q'on'os,
| |
| among his two brothers and one sister. The years that followed were
| |
| naturally tough for the young, maturing man. Learningto fight was
| |
| paramount for Loren, in order for him to just survive. His skin color
| |
| and physical appearance made him a natural target, thus to just make it
| |
| through a day without major injuries, Loren learned to defend himself.
| |
| Upon reaching puberty, he slowly learned more about his Betazoid talents
| |
| and developed these abilities to aid in his own defense. He learned to
| |
| not only read his opponents physical movements in a fight, but also
| |
| learned to gather 'impressions' from his opponents thoughts, thus
| |
| allowing him to anticipate his opponents moves well ahead of the coming
| |
| attack. In short, Loren learned how to fight, and fight well. Very few
| |
| Klingons would dare call him out for a fair fight, as his reputation
| |
| grew in the social circles surrounding him. Nevertheless, the feelings
| |
| of isolation grew for Loren, and upon reaching 15, he realized just how
| |
| different he really was.
| |
|
| |
| Leaving Q'on'os wasn't difficult for the child man. All he had seen
| |
| there was fighting and hatred against him. Deep down there was a need
| |
| to actually feel wanted and loved. Abandoning his 'family' on the
| |
| Klingon homeworld, the youth managed to secure passage to the notorious
| |
| Sirius IV colony, where after arriving nearly penniless, he managed to
| |
| get hired as a dispute mediator for a major shipping exporter planetside.
| |
| Staying nearly two years at this job, from ages 15 to 17, Loren then left,
| |
| tendering an application to Starfleet Academy with the recommendation of
| |
| Cmdr. Loroque, CO of the SAMURAI vessel assigned to protect the colony on
| |
| Sirius IV.
| |
|
| |
| Excerpt from Loroque Recommendation
| |
| "...his talent truly lies in his ability to determine the directions
| |
| negotiations should go. Involving a particular dispute between two
| |
| shipping parties ready to begin firing upon each other's vessel while in
| |
| orbit, the young Mr. Landers not only assisted us in settling the dispute
| |
| but convinced both parties involved how working with each other would not
| |
| only increase their profits but allow them to nearly corner the market on
| |
| a particular item. Needless to say, I was impressed by the wisdom
| |
| exhibited by Mr. Landers at such an early age. I do recommend that his
| |
| entrance into the academy be welcomed."
| |
|
| |
| Cmdr. Loroque, CO USS VIXEN
| |
|
| |
| Academy and Post-Academy years
| |
|
| |
| Starfleet Academy proved uneventful for the young Landers, passing his
| |
| classes with average scores, excelling in Federation history and scoring
| |
| high on the auxiliary services exams. Like all telepahths in Starfleet,
| |
| Loren took the Telepath's oath vowing never to forcefully read another
| |
| sentient being’s mind. Following his graduation, Landers was given the
| |
| rank Ensign and assigned to the USS FEYNMAN as CNS.
| |
|
| |
| Serving for nearly three years aboard the FEYNMAN he rose rapidly in
| |
| rank from ensign to full lieutenant, not to mention the growth of a deep
| |
| relationship with the ship's crew particularly the ship's CMO, Dr. Mary
| |
| Mackrensacklar (Mac for short).
| |
|
| |
| The relationship between the two flourished into a romantic relationship,
| |
| which grew even more intimate upon the discovery of Dr. Mac's latent
| |
| telepathic abilities. Assisting her in controlling her newfound talent
| |
| was Loren, which even deepened their relationship.
| |
|
| |
| Feeling he had finally found that which was lacking in his life, namely
| |
| love, Loren began to feel at peace surrounded by his friends on the
| |
| FEYNMAN as well as Mary. During this time, the FEYNMAN on a mission in
| |
| the Coalsack Nebula encountered a superior Xanthandi strike force
| |
| and was subsequently destroyed. Fortunately less than 3% of the crew was
| |
| lost in the attack and escape.
| |
|
| |
| As the crew awaited reassignment, fully expecting to be broken up and
| |
| shipped to different vessels in the fleet, Dr. Mac was given an important
| |
| assignment in a remote sector dealing with a sudden virial outbreak.
| |
| Feeling it her duty to help others she accepted the assignment,
| |
| effectively ending her relationship with Loren.
| |
|
| |
| Heartbroken, Loren himself decided to leave anything and everything that
| |
| reminded him of her, requesting reassignment from the FEYNMAN crew which
| |
| now had been placed on a new SOVERIEGN class vessel, the KIROV. Loren was
| |
| reassigned as diplomatic liason to the Isaahi, and subsequently was
| |
| involved in ensuring a stalemate and brief negotiations between the warlike
| |
| Reavers, Isaahi, and Federation. After the negotiations had broken down,
| |
| Loren was left without an assignment, until the opening of the Gibraltar II
| |
| wormhole.
| |
|
| |
| Now that a new passageway has opened to the BETA quadrant, Starfleet saw a
| |
| need for someone on the frontlines to represent the interests of the
| |
| Federation in a diplomatic fashion. Enter Loren Landers, first contact
| |
| specialist. Suddenly, Loren found himself back onboard the KIROV,
| |
| alongside the crew he had hoped to forget, among those who were the only
| |
| ones to truly care for him.
| |
|
| |
| Unfortunately, this stint back with the crew Landers grew to see as family
| |
| was very short-lived. Starfleet, within a month of approving Loren’s
| |
| billet as a specialist onboard the KIROV, recalled him to assign him to a
| |
| special ancillary group within Starfleet Engineering, the Prototype
| |
| Spacecraft Test Group. Recently discovered technology, brought by the
| |
| arrival of a ship once lost in the Delta quadrant for some years spurred
| |
| several advances in light spacecraft that Starfleet saw fit to further
| |
| investigate. This group, PSTG, was tasked with the mission of design and
| |
| testing of new craft. It was still unknown at this time why Loren Landers
| |
| was tapped for being part of this group as his flight skills prior to
| |
| entering into service with this group was highly circumspect. Nonetheless,
| |
| after serving in this group for over 2 years, he sought and obtained a
| |
| billet on the ship that was once his home, the USS KIROV, with flight
| |
| skills far above what they had been previously. See Appendix: PSTG, for
| |
| non-classified information regarding the PSTG.

| The Prototype Spacecraft Test Group exists as a very small and obscure
| |

| MEMO: Cmdr. Dr. Owen Larson, Commanding Officer PSTG
| |
|
| |
| RE: Recruitment of Lt.Cmdr. Loren Landers
| |
|
| |
| I agree with Dr. Zaras’s comments regarding Lt.Cmdr. Landers. His telepathic
| |
| abilities would aid us tremendously in gaining more ground in understanding
| |
| the findings brought to us from that ship just recently returned from the Delta
| |
| quadrant. I believe that his lack of ability in navigation and piloting can be
| |
| remedied quickly enough. In addition, from what I’ve heard regarding his recent
| |
| posting as a negotiator near that new wormhole, he should be more than amenable
| |
| to our offer. Please proceed with contacting the commander. Inform him of none
| |
| of our plans for him though. I want him in the dark as much as possible.
| |
| Provide him with only the information he needs to know.
