B. Background Summary
---------------------

Franz-Joseph Habsburger was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. His 
parents were proud of their background, so Franz was educated in that 
spirit. when he was 16 years of age, he attended a local dancing school 
for 5 years, having fun with peers. He attended public schools until he 
was ready to go to university. Since being interested in Science, Franz 
chose to attend the Institute of Physics in Vienna, where he came into 
contact with representatives from Starfleet conducting scientific 
research with dilithium. Franz came in contact with astrophysics
and also interested in propulsion systems.

During his first day at the Academy, he came into a fistfight, caused by 
an insult from an older cadet to a female first-year student. A formal 
reprimand was issued after that, the senior cadet was sent to the 
infirmary. There were no other incidents during the Academy. His specialty
was Engineering, with a focus in subspace-mechanics.

After graduating Franz was sent to an Outpost at the Romulan Neutral Zone,
where he worked as requisition officer. He showed a good talent in 
"organizing" hardware, software and all the little supply goods making 
life better. 

His commanding officer, CDR Johnson, suspected Franz of stealing Starfleet
property.  While an investigation proved inconclusive, Franz felt 
insulted by their suspicions (and ingratitude for keeping the base 
running despite inadequate official logistical support) and decided to 
put in for a transfer.  He spent two years serving as an assistant 
engineer aboard the USS RELIANT.  Following an incident which killed the 
Chief, he was advanced to the department headship.  His ability to 
organize and improvise during several missions suitably impressed the 
Captain.  At the end of his duty rotation, he transferred to STARBASE 6 
and the shakedown crew for the USS REPUBLIC.  He was  Lieutenant Storm's 
recommended replacement at the commissioning.

Franz-Joseph Habsburger's general attitude is quite odd. His parents 
instilled in him the notion that he is the descendant of the last ruling 
Austrian dynasty and so he has to be an officer and gentleman. Moreover he
might seem a little bit snobbish sometimes, because he himself believes
partly that he is nobility. 

At work he is astoundingly ambitious, trying to get the job done as best 
as possible, to the point of skirting regulations. As a past-time he 
procures supplies outside normal Starfleet channels to keep his department 
running.  

Normally a polite, calm, and friendly individual, he compensates for his 
less than impressive physical strength with an iron will.  If you get on 
his nerves, he will get really angry and is fully capable of finding ways
to get even with you.
