Name: Tanjien Dar | |||
Rank: Commander | |||
Race: Romulan | |||
Sex: Female | |||
Age: 97 | |||
Hair: Black | |||
Eyes: Brown | |||
Height: 5'11" | |||
Weight: 108 lbs | |||
POB: Hsien Vor (Romulan Colony)
Father: Centurian Juren Dar
Mother: Commander Hisad Kalya
Education: Admitted Romulan Naval Academy 2350, branch Communications.
Trained in Vulcan language and culture. Attended Voice Intercept and
Surveillance advanced training in 2362.
Background: Jen is the granddaughter of Ambassador Caithlin Dar, the
Romulan representive sent to Nimbus III (Star Trek V), and is said to look
"just like her." | |||
Jen is an only child, and with both of her parents being career naval
officers, she only had one choice as far as career was concerned. Thin and
weak by Romulan standards, she barely passed the academy entrance tests,
however she quickly demonstrated her gift for languages, learning the
languages of four of the Empire's enemies with such fluency, that she could
pass for a native speaker (Vulcan, Fed Standard, Klingon and Andorian).
This ability attracted the attention of the admiralty, and Jen was recruited
and trained to serve both in espionage and counter-espionage capacities, as
well as First Contact and Cross-Cultural Communications. Recruited is not
quite an accurate term, as Jen was coerced into serving the Tal¹Shiar,
though it was not accidental that the Tal¹Shiar became interested in her.
With the coming of the Dominion war and the Empire's joining forces with the
Federation and the Klingons, Jen once again found that she was a very useful
person to have around. Now at the rank of Centurian, she served on DS9 as
the Romulan fleet liaison, her knowledge of Starfleet procedure and
operations allowing her effectively coordinate the activities of Romulan
ships with their Federation counterparts. This was her first truly
diplomatic role, as she found herself balancing the operational requirements
and security protocols of the Romulan command on one side with the military
objectives and necessity for joint operations and cooperation with
Federation forces on the other.
With the war over, Jen returned to Romulus where she served for a few more
decades, however when the admiralty was approached by the Federation with
the possibility of an officer exchange, Tanjien Dar, now a Sub Commander was
selected for the assignment. She spent a number of months on the USS
Endeavour as the ship's counselor, then was recalled back to Romulus as the
Romulan senate suffered from its own internal problems. A second stint as
an exchange officer, this time on the USS Macronin, came at the same time as
significant Romulan activity within Federation space. As a result of the
"Pisces Incident", all factions connected in any way to deceased Enriov
(Admiral) Tr'Ninith have been recalled to Romulus to face a purge from the
highest levels. Tanjien Dar, while not involved in the Pisces incident in
any recent | |||
way, was sent to the Federation as an exchange officer by none other than
Enriov Tr'Ninith, and thus Tanjien Dar was also ordered back to Romulus, to
be executed. | |||
Sub Commander Dar received word of her recall while serving on board USS
Macronin, in Green fleet, however at the time that she received the order,
she was tracking Macronin's captain, who had been kidnapped by Orions.
Delaying her order long enough to rescue Captain Thorne, a personal friend,
Tanjien Dar set out with a small Federation/Romulan crew and brought Captain
Thorne back from her kidnappers. Though her methods were brutal, Captain
Thorne was not harmed in any way, and as a result, CINCSF himself intervened
on her behalf. | |||
While Dar is too proud to seek asylum, CINCSF was not too proud to "bring
up" the Sub Commander's contributions at a meeting with a Romulan senator.
As the meeting involved a massive aid package of food and minerals
desperately needed by the Star Empire, a pardon and emigration visa was
issued for Tanjien Dar, who essentially became a stateless person.
Dar was quickly brought into Starfleet intelligence for debriefing and
interrogation, and though she steadfastly refused to betray her people in
any way, her long-standing service and loyalty to the Federation were also
taken into account. In the end, Federation citizenship was granted, as was
a commission in Starfleet at her Romulan rank of O-5, or Starfleet
Commander, branched science and communications.
Jen's Romulan career was an active one, partly spent monitoring and
interpreting Federation communications from behind Federation lines. She
spent roughly half of her active career on a small bird of prey,
intercepting and interpreting errant signals, as well as making contact with
non-Federation member worlds within Federation border space. However early
in her first tour, while tracking a small Federation courier vessel, she
witnessed an attack on said vessel by the Borg, and with the entire crew
killed and the vessel ignored, was ordered to assume the identity of the
Vulcan science officer on board that ship. For 9 months Jen remained
"behind enemy lines", gathering not only a wide assortment of intelligence,
but upon return, providing a detailed analysis of Starfleet's readiness that
resulted in massive invasion plans, and almost started a war, for her report
was published 6 months after Wolf 359, at which she "served" on the USS
Gemini, and with | |||
Starfleet's strength at an all-time low, invasion became a winnable
stratagem. Of course anyone who read the report would be clearly aware that
Dar herself was vehemently against such a course of action, and she used her
eloquent writing skills to minimize the attractiveness of that prospect, but
the raw data she did honestly report, and more conservative elements within
the empire held sway and military buildup took place.
While Dar was not officially trained for intelligence work, and appeared
quite | |||
terrified at the prospect of going "under cover", the Tal Shiar officer on
her ship made it clear to her that if she chose to disobey the order, it
would be considered as treason, and she and her family would be dealt with
accordingly. It was the coming of the Dominion that halted the invasion
plans, and it was the massive Romulan fleet build-up in preparation for the
Invasion of the UFP that allowed the Romulans to so effectively fight the
Dominion, so in a way, Dar's earlier report ultimately helped to save the
Federation. Dar was truly relieved that war did not come between the empire
and the Federation, though the Dominion war proved extremely costly to both
the Romulans and the Federation. While she was angered that her work had
resulted in plans for the invasion of the Federation, she was somewhat
vindicated when that same build-up was used to fight the Dominion.
Her next assignment was command of the small scout vessel Khorsk, a
146-year-old Bird of Prey with a crew of 5. The Khorsk, and other ships
like her, are assigned patrol duties, in Dar's case, inside Federation
space. | |||
Personality: | |||
Like most of her race, while appearing as a Vulcan, she is driven not by
logic but by emotion and reason much as humans are, though she has learned
well to feign Vulcan disinterest. She is quiet most of the time, curious by
nature, and possessed of an eidetic memory, hence her gift with languages.
Due to her frail (by Romulan standards) build, she has always been rather
timid when it came to physical activities, and while semi-skilled in the
disruptor, she prefers to leave any fighting to others, knowing that her
talents lie elsewhere.
Sub Commander Dar is very loyal to both of her masters, though always her
first loyalty is to her own sense of honor. Should she receive conflicting
orders from Romulus and the Federation, she would do her best to find a
creative solution which would violate neither, but if forced to make a
choice, would side with the virtuous, unless and until it created a security
violation for the empire, which is a line she would never cross.
As an exchange officer, the Romulan high Command presented Sub Commander Dar
as a cultural anthropologist/communications expert, which while more of a
science officer in the Starfleet hierarchy, Dar was considered more of a
diplomat after her work on DS9, and was assigned to the advisory role of a
Ship's Counselor, with the civilian title of "Ambassador" on the USS
Endeavour, where she served for one year.
Lastly, with the current rift between the two factions of Romulan politics,
it should be noted that Dar has no love of the Tal'Shiar, especially after
the coercive means by which she placed in extreme jeapordy early in her
career. During her tenure at DS9, she developed a strong working
relationship with, and respect for many officers in Starfleet, and is
solidly committed to the success of the Federation/Romulan alliance, seeing
as the only way that both governments can move forward in the changed
socio-political climate of the Alpha Quadrant.
Physical Appearance: | |||
Tanjien Dar is tall and very thin, and while Romulans are generally
stronger than their human counterparts, she falls toward the middle-range of
average for a human female of her general build. While she is 97 years old,
Romulans, like Vulcans, are long lived, and she is actually closer to 30 in
human aging terms. Lastly, like her grandmother Caithlin Dar, she has Asian
features and is extremely exotic-looking and sensual.

BACKGROUND MATERIAL: | |||
Marion Shelby was born in a parallel universe into a similar but slightly
different version of the Federation.
Some children grow up in the shadow of a successful or celebrated parent. Marion
Elisabeth Shelby grew up in the shadow of a long family line of overachievers
that stretched back (albeit tenuously) to General Jo Shelby the Confederate
cavalry leader who refused to surrender after the American Civil War was over..
Her father is a Starfleet admiral and diplomatic envoy on Bolius, his father
commanded a battle cruiser during the Dominion War and her grand-aunt helped
dispel the Borg invasion of the Federation. Likewise her mother is a renowned
physician from a wealthy British family.
With a family tree like this Marion was doomed to greatness from the moment she
was born since her parents would accept nothing less than excellence from their
child.. To this day rumors persist that Marion's mother underwent several
treatments that toed the line to genetic enhancement during her pregnancy
although medical tests at Starfleet have been inconclusive.
Mom and dad decided even before Marion's birth that her daughter would join
Starfleet or at the very least the Marine Corps and they pushed her toward that
goal as soon as she could walk and speak.
They called it "making the best out of her potential", rationalizing that their
daughter would become a spoiled rich child otherwise. Luckily Marion was both
bright and eager enough to meet their expectations. She became a successful
fencer and show jumper while her school grades allowed her to enter Starfleet
Academy. | |||
During the next four years Marion practically lived and breathed for the
approval of her family and the challenges Starfleet offered. In time she
actually found that she liked the command track which gave her grades another
push upward. Her single minded pursuit of excellence made her popular with the
instructors but her often cold and abrasive personality kept the other cadets as
arms length and earned her nicknames among which "Vulcan Ice Queen" was one of
the nicer ones. | |||
However, even the facts that she graduated at the top 5 % of her class and
captained the Academy fencing team in her last cadet year barely earned her an
approving nod from her father.
Her first assignment was the USS SORANUS where she served as OPS until the ship
together with a few dozen others vessels and space installations was thrown into
another universe - the universe of ASR. Before long the "people from the other
side" became informally known as the "rabbit holers". After a period of
retraining in what was a new Starfleet for her Marion resumed the position of
OPS but not on the SORANUS but on a half-derelict space station named MARRAKESH
that had also made the dimensional jump.
For some reason Admiral Maxwell Shelby II, counterpart of the man who used to be
Marion's father in her own continuum, arranged for her to be transferred to what
could be considered a more prestigious assignment - Operations Manager of the
USS DAEDALUS. | |||
After a mission that involved a Klingon mining colony, Captain Harris´ infant
child and hordes of murderous genetically engineered monsters Marion earned a
swift promotion to full Lieutenant.
Upon their return to GIBRALTAR the DAEDALUS crew fought a non-corporeal emotion
vampire who had descended onto the space station causing large-scale death and
mayhem.. Under the control of that emotion vampire a GIBRALTAR officer carried
out two almost successful assassination attempts on Shelby. The experience left
her in a precarious unbalanced state of slight paranoia that would probably
worry her counselor - if she would visit one.
Professional Skill Profile:
Helm and Navigation | |||
Tactical Operations | |||
Political Sciences | |||
Administration & Personnel
Racial and Cultural Background:
Marion Shelby was born and raised on Earth and educated on private schools in
Great Britain (Earth) before joining the Academy. See Background section for
more details | |||
Medical and Physiological Background:
During her third year at the Academy Marion underwent extensive genetic
screening to confirm or deny rumors that she had been genetically enhanced as a
child. The doctors noted a remarkable stable genetic structure and a
well-above-average IQ but in the end they could not make any conclusive
diagnosis. Finally the board of instructors decided to give the promising cadet
the benefit of doubt and allowed her to continue her studies. Marion still feels
greatly embarrassed by the procedure and only recently did she find out who of
her fellow cadets spread the rumors in the first place. Only years later in
in-depth physicals aboard the USS SORANUS finally proved conclusively that
Marion´s genes had not been artificially enhanced.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE:
Marion was showered by her parents more with demands and expectations than with
parental love. As a result she has grown aloof, remote and demanding not because
she's a bad person but because she knows nothing else.
Nothing but top performance in herself and others is good enough for her. She
cares for others but more out of a sense of duty than out of heartfelt empathy.
Even her two serious relationships were based more on physical attraction than
real deep feelings. | |||
In a less enlightened century than the 24th others might have called her a
bitch. Even in the 24th century many do.
Marion comes across as aggressive, ambitious and tenacious. Patience with what
she perceives as incompetence or lack of dedication is not her strong suit.
However, no one can argue that she is top in her profession and calm under
pressure. | |||
Having practically grown up around the brass she is unafraid to speak her mind
around superior officers. As much as Starfleet values professionalism and skill
her quest for personal perfection and parental approval concerns the Academy
counselors but they hope that her hard demeanor will soften once she is exposed
to real life. In fact, her last counselor suggested to put her into the front
line far away from contact with her father.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:
Yoga, Karate, Self-Improvement
=========================================================
"I would describe Ensign Shelby as a driven person, driven to achieve success
and be the best in her case. While extraordinary achievement is a hallmark of
Starfleet officers, I'm somewhat concerned about the single-mindedness of her
pursuits. The Ensign would be well-advised to learn how to relax and how to
value friendships." | |||
LT Liotta, Assistant Counselor, Starfleet Academy
=========================================================
"Considering that she had been thrown out of her own space-time continuum and
lost all her friends and family, in fact her very reality Ensign Shelby has
adjusted remarkably well to her rather extreme situation. In fact, it seems to
me she adjusted too well all things considered."

War to help rebuilt and upgrade what little defensive systems the planet had possessed before the Dominion invasion.
Initially disgusted by the pacifistic culture Krell soon came to admire Betazoid honesty in general and a particular young
ambassadorial aid named Jade Grax in particular.
They fell in love, married and soon faced their first problem. Respect notwithstanding Krell felt uneasy living on a world
that had virtually no conflict and where billions of strangers could dissect his thoughts. For similar reasons his
telepathic wife wasn't really welcome with his family back in the Empire.
He arranged to be transferred to Bajor where he joined first the local Federation fleet and later the fledgling Bajoran navy
while jade worked for the Federation embassy.
Given the huge genetic gap between Klingons and Betazoids Jade miscarried twice before Koloth was born in 2391 after almost
fifteen years of childless marriage. Now Krell grew uneasy again, concerned that his son would grow knowing
nothing about the Klingon ways. On the other hand he felt that after so much time on Bajor there was really no place for him
on the Klingon Homeworld or in the Klingon armed Forces. As soon as Koloth had finished basic schooling the
family relocated to Boreth where Krell found work as a hunter, supplying the endless stream of pilgrims that sought enlightenment
in the monastery of Kahless.
Young Koloth Grax would grow up in the center of Klingon spirituality where his father and his peers instructed him in the
traditional Klingon ways while his mother nurtured his softer Betazoid side and his emerging empathic abilities.
Being exposed to no less than four cultures from the day he could walk Koloth became immensely interested in alien races. Since
he heard the story of Kahless star for the first time he would continue to look up to the stars for his
future. Most Klingons distrusted him even more than they distrusted half-breeds in general but Starfleet would have him. His
mother initially hoped Koloth would become a doctor or counsellor but the Klingon streak was running too strong
in him for this. | |||
He became a Starfleet pilot.
During the battle simulations Koloth could not deny his Klingon genes and upbringing either. He enjoyed being in battle and
being on the helm of a ship in battle. The second Klingon-Federation War cast a dark shadow over his ideal of a
glorious Klingon Empire. That and the animosity the Half-Klingon experienced on the Academy during this time let him into a
couple of fights which again led to reprimands and counselling sessions.
In the end Koloth pulled through and graduated from the Academy. His first assignment as a disappointment when Koloth was ordered
into the position of junior helmsman aboard the science vessel USS SCHROEDINGER. The most glorious thing he
did aboard the dedicated research vessel was plot an orbital course around a supernova-in-waiting.
But the time aboard the SCHROEDINGER gave the young Ensign time to cool his temper and get some experience under his belt. After
three years he almost missed the science ship - although not for long - when Starfleet began to rotate him
through several military vessels.
His last assignment as Chief Helmsman aboard the USS SEKHMET brought Koloth right into the midst of war against the Gorn. Yes. He
felt his blood rush and his heart pump but he also learned that war is much uglier than old warrior admit
in their tales. | |||

FAMILY HISTORY | |||
The Jackson Family has a long and revered tradition of military service. Their links go all the way back to "Stonewall" Jackson.
Kieren's great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Ian Jackson, played an important role in the formation of the Federation and
Starfleet. His son, and Kieren's great-great-great-great grandfather, Roger, was amongst the founding leadership of SF Intelligence.
His great-great-great grandmother, Ursula, was head of the team which negotiated the terms of the neutral zone. His great
grandfather, Jack "Jo-Jo" Jackson, is still considered by many as one of the greatest pilots Starfleet has seen. In fact, until
recently, he still held every Academy cadet pilot record, irrespective of craft type. Kieren's grandmother, Mary Jackson-Smith, was
a member of the negotiation team which sealed the treaty between the Federation and Klingon Empire. His father, Phil Jackson,
achieved the rank of Admiral before his retirement from Starfleet and is held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Many notice the unusual middle name Kieren bears, and it is a tribute to his mother and her ancestry. Martha is Bajoran and a
strong empath. She has played an important role in Federation politics, and her empathic abilities have played an important part in her efforts.
She has also managed this whilst also raising a large family. Few of her children have shown any indication of possessing her gift,
except for Keiren who displays moderate empathic abilities.
STARFLEET RECORD | |||
211201 Graduated with honours, Starfleet Academy
Major: Counselling | |||
Minor: Security | |||
211215 Assigned to USS PERSEPHONE, COUNSELLOR
STARFLEET HISTORY | |||
With the long tradition of military service running through the family, as well as the high involvement amongst his siblings, it seemed
inevitable that Kieren would find his way to military service. He originally joined the Air Force, proving himself to be a highly talented
junior pilot. His talent was noted by the powers that be, and he was recruited by Starfleet from the Air Force junior program. At the
Academy, he adapted quickly to flying spacecraft and was, in no time, eclipsing the records which had been held by his great grandfather.
Whilst he loves flying, it was not Flight Control that captured his attention. As he has grown up, his empathic abilities have strengthened
and he has always enjoyed supporting and encouraging people. He found he had a natural flair and enthusiasm for counselling whilst
studying at the Academy, and as his studies progressed, more and more he found himself drawn to Counselling. He loves being able to support
others, and explore the joys and challenges before others, and has excelled as he has progressed throughout the Academy.
The strong military history in Keiren's family also ensures that he is comfortable around not only all manner of craft, but also all manner of
weapons. His older brother Jim has been his hero and mentor growing up, and his passion for weaponry rubbed off. Not surprisingly,
his minor at the Academy was security, and he is quite adept when it comes to handling most weaponry.
PERSONALITY | |||
Having grown up in a large family, Kieren is used to coping with lots of people and pressure situations. In fact, he thrives under pressure,
and loves being around people. He has self confidence, stemming from his time as a pilot, which at times has been misinterpreted as
arrogance or overconfidence. However, as his studies have tended toward Counselling, this over confidence has mellowed to a quiet assurance
and confidence. Kieren knows his limitations, and often pushes himself to them, but does so in the knowledge that he knows when to
back off. Having grown up with tradition and expectation, he himself has high expectations, particularly of himself. But, whilst having high
expectations, he is at the same time friendly, charming and just. This is most likely due to his inheritance of both his parents'
diplomatic traits coupled with his empathic abilities. Thus, he considers every angle and judges a situation or person on their merits.
Kieren has a strong sense of loyalty and is also very trusting. It takes people time to earn his trust and loyalty, but he regards
both traits as amongst the most important traits of human nature and will be unbending in his support when they are involved.
Kieren is a highly accomplished young man, who works hard and plays hard. At the same time, he is friendly, eager and approachable, possessing
a nautral charm and wit which puts all at ease. He is highly regarded by all who meet him and adept at relating to anyone, be they
a Fleet Admiral or a janitor.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE
Author: Dr Theodore Huxtable, Resident Psychologist, Starfleet Academy
Cadet Jackson's empathic abilities were uncovered during his teenage years, detected with the onset of puberty and have been monitored
since first detected. They have strengthened considerably over time, and his control and understanding of these abilities have been a
testament to his hard work during his time as a cadet here at the Academy. He will undoubtedly be an oustanding addition to any crew,
being able to draw on not only his own empathic abilities but also the huge array of experiences that growing up in a large family
with | |||
strong historical roots. Cadet Jackson is a well rounded, balanced individual who has much to offer to the role of Counsellor in any
assignment. | |||
