The VALHALLA-class command battle cruiser is a warship with comparatively limited scientific research capability as evidenced in a reduced number of laboratories. This is not a problem as the VALHALLA-class is a ship designed for Fleet coordination and combat roles. It also contains an aft launch bay for 12 combat shuttles adding to its strategic and tactical multi-role purpose. The VALHALLA-class holds 400 Marines and a number of support vehicles, including 6 dropships. These specially designed transports are for a rapid deployment of troops for boarding or planetary activities. Also incorporated in this design is a point defense system and a fighter launching system, aft of the ship.Naming:
VALHALLA-class command battlecruisers are named for Norse mythical gods, heroes, events/places, and creatures. The VALHALLA's sister ship is the USS VALKYRIE, NCC 18001. The next four vessels scheduled for commissioning are the USS BEOWULF, NCC 18002; the USS TYR, NCC 18003; the USS ODIN, NCC 18004 and the USS RAGNAROK, NCC 18006. The USS THOR, NCC 18005 was scheduled to be commissioned shortly after the VALKYRIE, but a design flaw was discovered and construction was halted. Heroes and Gods: BEOWULF, TYR, FAFNIR, HELA, HEIMDALL, LOKI, ODIN, RAGNAR, SIF, SIGMUND, SIGURD, SURTUR, THOR. Places and Mythical Beasts: VALHALLA, VALKYRIE, ALFHEIM, BIFROST, FENRIS, HEL, HUGIN, MIDGARD, MUNIN, NIFLHEIM, RAGNAROK, SLEIPNIR, YGGDRASIL.
