| The only son of a Betazoid diplomat and lawyer, Jerid grew up in a
| |
| privileged environment. He attended a private school for children of
| |
| diplomats and other high-ranking political officials. He excelled in
| |
| his studies, however his classmates were a little leery of his
| |
| telempathic abilities. Jerid possesses a blend of abilities, both
| |
| telepathic and empathic. Both abilities are fully developed, however
| |
| he has learned to “turn off� his telepathic abilities and mute his
| |
| empathic one. He prefers to wear colored contact lenses to hide his
| |
| distinctive Betazoid eyes. ((Think a combination of Professor Xavier
| |
| from X-Men and Counsellor Troi.))
| |

| Jerid was fortunate in that his pre-arranged marriage was to his
| |
| Imzadi, or destined lover. In Betazoid beliefs, an Imzadi is your
| |
| soul-mate, the one who literally touches one’s soul. Jerid and Alima
| |
| were married in a traditional Betazoid ceremony on Betazed, both of
| |
| them taking a short leave from Starfleet to do so. Alima was posted
| |
| to Starfleet Academy as a teacher in astrophysics. It wasn’t until
| |
| after they were married that Jerid confided in Alima what his real
| |
| position was at Starfleet. She had believed he was a diplomatic
| |
| liaison until he told her about his position with OSFI. This nearly
| |
| ended the brand-new marriage. The impending pregnancy caused Jerid to
| |
| re-evaluate his career choice and after Kira was born, he requested a
| |
| transfer out of OSFI. This was granted with the understanding that he
| |
| could be recalled at any time. Alima went with Jerid aboard the Tigris,
| |
| caring for their daughter, when Jerid was assigned as the ship’s
| |
| Executive Officer (XO). They were only on the Tigris a short time
| |
| before Jerid was recalled to OSFI. Alima stayed on the ship with their
| |
| new daughter while Jerid returned to OSFI. During this time Alima was
| |
| killed in a transporter “accident�. The transporter technician
| |
| responsible for the transfer mysteriously vanished, and Alima’s death
| |
| was ruled as “suspicious�.
| |

| At this point Jerid asked for, and received, retirement from OSFI so
| |
| that he could care for his daughter. His retirement is permanent, but
| |
| it is also conditional if OSFI is ever in need of his specialized
| |
| skills. (Skills classified to 0-2). ((His current fleet commander would

| be able to have this information.)) Kira’s telepathic abilities have
| |
| not manifested yet, except with close family, and likely will not until
| |
| she reaches puberty, although she does have some empathic abilities
| |
| with strangers. It is expected that she will not have the full range of
| |
| Betazoid skills that her father has, since she is only 3/4 Betazoid.

| Hanson Bennett is of Terran Scandinavian decent, his father being

| Swedish and his mother being Norwegian. Both of his parents served
| |
| in Star Fleet, the bulk of their careers spent in the Engineering
| |
| Corps on Utopia Planitia; both Hanson and his sister, Elke, were born
| |
| in the Shipyards' medical facilities.

| His childhood was both uneventful and stable, his parents providing a
| |
| steady environment in which to grow. As an adolescent, his hobbies
| |
| included ice hockey and springball.
| |

| It wasn't until after his graduation from Star Fleet Academy that
| |
| Hanson's star really began to shine; in fact, it would be several years
| |
| after graduation. His story really begins while serving on the USS
| |
| LEVIATHAN, under Captain Denton Vargas, during the Tybiiran Encounters.

| In First Tybiiran, he was LEVIATHAN's Acting TAC; he acquitted himself
| |
| well in a situation for which he was inadequately prepared. This
| |
| earned him a promotion and a transfer across TACRON-91 to the newly-
| |
| recovered USS LOR'VELA. It was there that he experienced Second
| |
| Tybiiran, and it was here that he once again showed his coolness under
| |
| fire and his ability to lead in combat. These performances lead to
| |
| a transfer to Star Fleet Academy as an Instructor of Advanced Security
| |
| Measures for his shore rotation. This rotation ended less than 3 weeks
| |
| ago.
| |

| He is an excellent pilot; he was once considered the LEVIATHAN's
| |
| official shuttlecraft pilot. He is also a certified Junior and Senior
| |
| Bridge Officer as well as holding qualifications as a Tactical, Operations
| |
| and Navigation/Astrogation Officer.

| Hanson is a bit "off," as others have said. He doesn't quite march to

| the same beat as everyone else; as a result, he has had a reputation for

| person and is friendly almost to a fault- there have been some who have
| |
| commented that his overt friendliness may be the very source of his
| |
| eccentricity.

| Born in Savona in the Ligurian Alps on Earth, Camillo Carretto was a
| |
| little closer to the stars than other people on Earth. When the local
| |
| mountains became to small for the adolecent mountaineer he reached for
| |
| the stars and applied to Starfleet Academy.
| |

| After graduating sucessfully Carretto was assigned as junior tactical
| |
| officer t the USS HADRIAN. The HADRIAN was special insofar that this
| |
| Agammemnon-class warship had been built and christened to honor the newest
| |
| Federation member at the time of her construction, the planet Magna Roma.
| |
| | |
| The fourth planet orbiting a yellow dwarf star, Magna Roma (or less flowery
| |
| known as 892-IV) is nearly identical to Terra, a perfect example of Hodgkin´s
| |
| Law of Parallel Planet Development. In effect, it is a duplicate of late
| |
| twenty-first century Earth with the notable exception that on Magna Roma the
| |
| Roman Empire never fell. When the planet was first encountered by the crew of
| |
| the Constitution-class USS ENTERPRISE it was a bizarre blend of technological
| |
| advancement and cruelty, with slavery and killing-for-entertainment as
| |
| accepted pratices. Like Earth, Magna Roma had known the coming of Christ
| |
| although it took the local version of Christiany (known as the Followers of
| |
| the Son) nearly two-thousand years before they could break the rulership of
| |
| the Magna Romanian emperors.
| |
| | |
| When Magna Roma became a full-fledged Federation member world, the HADRIAN was
| |
| dispatched to assist the merger of the military and to generally show the
| |
| Federation flag.
| |
| | |
| Carretto´s expertise in matters both military and political earned him a quick
| |
| trasnfer to the position of liaison officer between Star Fleet and the Magna
| |
| Romanian navy / air force.
| |
| | |
| During a diplomatic banquet he met Junila Laetitia Silva, daughter of a
| |
| recently deceased senator and even more recently divorced. Instantly in love
| |
| with the noble woman Camillo began to court her with all his considerable
| |
| skill and soon with success.
| |
| | |
| After a year they decided to get married.
| |
| | |
| The Silva family wasn´t particularly enthused about Junila´s decision and it
| |
| took some some creative geneaology to link the Carretto family to the Marchesi
| |
| Di Carretto the former feudal lords of Savona before Lady Portia Helena Silva
| |
| grudingly agreed to the marriage. To his day she still views her son-in-law as
| |
| a somewhat inferior if marginally acceptable life form, something that
| |
| infuriates Camillo to no end.
| |

| Aside from that as far Camillo was concerned his marriage was a match made in
| |
| heaven. His relatives can make his domestic life a living hell at times but
| |
| Junila is the apple of his eye. His wife isn´t so completely over the moon as
| |
| she became suspicious of her husbands outside electives when he´s not at home.
| |

| His recent trip back to school and his reassignement to DS13 as head of the
| |
| Combat Information Center have put a strain on their lives together, not to
| |
| mention that it made Lady Portia´s bickering even less endurable.

| Due to his upbringing and background Carretto speaks Federation Standard,

| Ensign Carretto has a fine grasp of military protocol and procedures an as
| |
| good an understanding of tactics as you can expect from a freshman officer. As
| |
| the division head of SHIELDS has has shown both professional skill and the
| |
| backbone to talk back to his superior - me in this case - for the unfair
| |
| treatment of another officer. While I admit that I do not like to be
| |
| contradicted I also admit that my jedgement that led to the incident was wrong.
| |
| My recommedation to rotate Ensign Carretto to rotate him through diplomatic
| |
| service has nothing to do with any personal difficulties we have. It is based
| |
| solely ont eh fact that he speaks Latin fluently and comes from a Romanic
| |
| background. Both things should endear him to our current hosts.
| |

| for his personal future I like to think that there are a lot of diplomatic
| |
| possibilities in this marriage.

| C. Psychological Profile

| A true strategist Camillo Carretto looks at the big picture, sometimes at the
| |
| expense of missing the finer details. Although a loving husband and soon-to-be
| |
| father Camillo feels entitled to a separate life outside of his family and
| |
| marriage where he enjoys many activities and time away from his family. That
| |
| includes that he has an eye for other women except the one he exchanged wedding
| |
| bands with but so far he has been faithful. He feels however, that his wife should
| |
| take care of all the day-to-day family issues so he won´t be bothered. After a
| |
| look at some of the more questionable branches of Junila´s family tree one might
| |
| feel inclined to sympathize. Sometimes seen as an (un)emotional rock Carretto is
| |
| stoic and decisive in a crisis but has trouble expressing emotions and trouble
| |
| asking for help.

| His main motivations seems to be self-esteem and self-respect. He wants
| |
| recognition for who he is from family,friends and enemies alike. Both in his
| |
| professional and in his personal life Camillo cares deeply for those under his
| |
| care and command and is extremely loyal and generous to them. Since he´s often

| unable to express his emotions he uses money and gifts instead.

| |
| of the original ENTERPRISE and stray from teh straight and narrow path once or
| |
| twice :)

| The following is something about an idea to get started that I already wrote to
| |
| Scott so if you got it from him, feel free to ignore. I just copied part of my
| |
| earlier mail to Scott again.

| Making my character the CIC might have an additional advantage (from my POV at
| |
| least) in the start-up phase of the new unit. Last thing I read about Juliana
| |
| Lorress was that she´s going to Advanced Space Naval Tactics School. I talked
| |
| briefly to Susanne while typing this.
| |
| | |
| It might be feasible that our characters meet at Tactics School and that would
| |
| give us an opportunity to contribute to the kick start DS13 by adding a few posts
| |
| from school to the archives. We might even find a reason why my character is
| |
| assigned to DS13 specifically. Those posts might not reach stellar levels of
| |
| excitement and interest but it seems to me that especially when you start a new
| |
| unit it is prudent to quickly reach what you called “a critical mass of posts�
| |
| to get the ball rolling. That might even be true if the “new� unit actually
| |
| consists of a well-oiled team that just changed address.
| |

| If we take it from the Tactical School angle, we could write stuff while the
| |
| command team is not obliged to provide an ad hoc mission (insofar there are
| |
| “missions� on a space station anyway). Rest assured Susanne will work from that
| |
| direction even if I get hit by lighting, so some start-up posts are already
| |
| accounted for :). If nothing else it might be a less well-worn view of Star Fleet
| |
| duty, one that will provide quite a challenge for me to write about.

| B. Background Summary:

| William Scores is in fact, not a single person as he appears to be.
| |
| Scores is a collective of individually self aware nanites working
| |
| together to create the person known as William Scores. This can best be
| |
| explained in the following way: A human body is made up of trillions
| |
| of individual cells, each cell does a specific job. Now add in the
| |
| twist that each cell is self aware and has its own opinion.
| |
|
| |
| William's race was created by Ensign Wesley Crusher in 2366 while on
| |
| board the USS Enterprise. After some confusion, it was determined that
| |
| the nanites that Wesley created were in fact self aware and were
| |
| allowed to colonize Kavis Alpha IV.
| |
|
| |
| This is were Starfleet's offical record on this matter ends, but not
| |
| the Nanites story. Like all lifeforms, the Nanites continued to evolve
| |
| and to ask questions. Most societies, at some point, develop a need for
| |
| a higher being, a religion. The Nanites are currently in that stage
| |
| and have developed a religion based on their creator, Wesley Crusher.
| |
| Once the Nanites had developed their society, the created a subspace
| |
| communications device and contacted the Federation. Needless to say,
| |
| this caused a little bit of turmoil with in the Federation Council.
| |
| Since the Nanites were created by a Starfleet officer, it was
| |
| determined that the Prime Directive did not apply to their society.
| |
| Starfleet sent in several teams to aid the Nanites in developing their
| |
| society but these teams were not able to convince the Nanites that
| |
| Wesley Crusher was not God.
| |
|
| |
| William Scores, Scores refering to the numerous individual that make
| |
| him up, was patterned off of these humanoids in an attempt to be more
| |
| like their creator, at least in physical form. The Nanite race believe
| |
| that to better understand the Universe, they have to take the physcial
| |
| form of the Creator.

| MISCELLENEOUS NOTES

| A. Skills Profile
| |
| Keeping with the doctrines of Ensign Scores faith, he/they try to limit
| |
| their physical capabilities to that of a normal human as much as
| |
| possible. Having said that, Ensign Scores has displayed several "non
| |
| human" abilites and is not limited to the normal physical limitations
| |
| of biological beings.
| |
|
| |
| Ensign Scores has "absorbed" a number of different standard Starfleet
| |
| tools including such things as a Type 2 phaser, a complete Engineering
| |
| field kit, and a communicator. These tools have been disassembled at
| |
| the molecular level and can be reassembled for use in just a few
| |
| seconds. Scores refers to these tools as necessary for the study of his
| |
| religion.
| |
|
| |
| In cases of extreme emergency, Ensign Scores has also displayed
| |
| superior strength, reflexs, and senses. He has shown the ability to
| |
| change his physical characteristics, such as his eye color,hair color,
| |
| and even shape at will. Scores is very hesitant to uses these abilites
| |
| though, stating that they are not the ways of the Creator. In general,
| |
| he will only use these abilites under direct orders or to save lives.

| Sir, per your directive I have been keeping a close eye on Cadet

| Scores. I have found him or more correctly, they, to be a fine cadet
| |
| and a privilege to instruct. I find him to be an excellent navigator
| |
| and even a moderately talented engineer. Even though he has capabilites

| that far exceed that of his other classmates, Cadet Scores strives to
| |
| fit in on their same physical level. At one time, I even observed Cadet
| |
| Scores "breathing" hard after a several kilometer run in order to
| |
| appear more like other biological cadets. Over all, I feel that he
| |
| will make a fine officer and even displays a high appitude for future
| |
| command placement.
| |
|
| |
| The only area in which Cadet Scores has failed is in physiological
| |
| testing during high stress situations involving multiple "correct"
| |
| solutions. Cadet Scores often hesitates, sometimes much longer then his
| |
| other classmates, when making difficult moral descisions. During
| |
| debriefing sessions after these tests, Cadet Scores reported that
| |
| "they" had difficulty in coming to a consensus at to which correct
| |
| answer to use. It appears that being made of trillions of self aware
| |
| beings does have its disadvantages when it comes to getting everyone
| |
| to agree. I have since scheduled Cadet Scores several sessions with
| |
| the Academy counselors to help him reach a solution. After several
| |
| sessions, his physiological test scores have improved greatly.

| C. Psychological Profile

| Subject: Cadet William Scores
| |
|
| |
| Cadet Scores is one of the most interesting cases that has ever walked
| |
| into my office. While working with Cadet Scores, I have to constantly
| |
| remind myself that I am actually working with an entire society.
| |
|
| |
| Cadet Scores came to my office needed help making difficult moral
| |
| decisions during high stress situations. In order to help him I first
| |
| evaluated his "collective" commonly held moral beliefs. I found him to
| |
| be of high moral character, consistant with any Starfleet officer.
| |
| What suprised me was the way in which Cadet Scores makes any decision.
| |
| It appears that he uses a truly democratic method to make decisions.
| |
| He puts any decision to each member of is collective and then opens a
| |
| debate about that decision. Finally, after each member has had time to
| |
| consider the issue, a vote is taken as to which course of action would
| |
| best address the situation. Under normal circumstances, this entire
| |
| process only takes a few nanosecons, about the same time as any normal
| |
| biological species. Unfortunately, this process seems to break down
| |
| during issues of high moral difficulty. During these more difficult
| |
| decisions, it appears that the collective often can not come to a
| |
| consensus. This makes Cadet Scores appear to be hesitating when in
| |
| fact, he hasn't even reached a decision yet.
| |
|
| |
| In order to assist him with this problem, I took a page from the
| |
| history of Earth. I showed him the history files on the governmental
| |
| system of the former United States and suggested that he implement a
| |
| representative democracy instead. This system is based on each member
| |
| of the collective choosing a representative to vote on behalf of a
| |
| number of members at the same time.
| |
|
| |
| After further testing, it appears that the representative democracy
| |
| approach has worked for Cadet Scores. During follow up interviews,
| |
| Cadet Scores has told me that these representatives have chosen to
| |
| migrate to his head region and are currently taking on the role of
| |
| human brain cells.
| |
|
| |
| On another interesting note, it appears that Cadet Scores has also
| |
| adopted another human characteristic. Being a mechanical being, Cadet
| |
| Scores has perfect memory and can recall every detail of every second.
| |
| In order to better reflect humanity, Cadet Scores has chosen to record
| |
| these memories in a highly disorganized and haphazard way. The over
| |
| all effect of this method is that Cadet Scores has to try to recall a
| |
| specific event just like a human. Unlike a human, who may or may not
| |
| remember, Cadet Scores will recall the event in exact detail after a
| |
| short time.

| D. Current Recreational Interests
| |
| Ensign Scores has numerous recreational interestes. As a collective of
| |
| individuals, Ensign Scores is interested in almost any type of
| |
| recreation. The over all majority of the time though, Ensign Scores
| |
| enjoys cutting edge technology, human history, tactical games such as
| |
| chess, and watching the social interations of biological species. He
| |
| is constantly studing the Universe as a whole hoping to find his
| |
| religious enlightenment.

| |
| E. Miscellaneous Information
| |
| Ensign Scores is a very powerful character but also has a lot of
| |
| drawbacks. He is mechanical and has problems in social situations. He
| |
| also has to eat, not to take in energy but to gain the raw material
| |
| needed to replace nanite loses. The individual nanites act like living
| |
| cells in the way they wear out and must be replaced.
| |
|
| |
| Then there is his whole religious belief system. He wants to be like
| |
| his Creator and gain enlightenment like Wesley during the Traveler
| |
| incident. That limits his various abilites that would unbalance the
| |
| storylines. He may have incredible abilites but won't use them because
| |
| of his religious beliefs unless there is no other way out.
| |
|
| |
| Even though he's made up of nanites, he still can't create something
| |
| out of nothing. Unlike a replicator which has almost limitless
| |
| potential, Scores has to have the correct raw material if he is going
| |
| to form something using his nanites. Thats why he prefers to
| |
| disassemble actual items and carry them broken down.
| |
|
| |
| Scores also knows nothing about human biology. That means he can't
| |
| just enter into someone and cure injuries at will. Now if its an
| |
| emergency, he can enter machines and fix them with his nanites but
| |
| this still takes time and he prefers to do it the old fashion way, by
| |
| hand.

| |
| power grid of the entire town. All the towns children

| attended informal classes held by the various adults.

| Harry Halliburton spent most of his time helping his
| |
| father, while Cole spent most of his time with his mother
| |
| and the animals. "Addie" came along when Cole was six
| |
| years old. As a child Cole would ride with the adults
| |
| into the bush and help with various studies. In the
| |
| field Cole learned of climbing, ropes, compasses,
| |
| tracking and many other outdoor skills.

| When Cole was 16, a hunting party of Orion and Ferengi
| |
| poachers landed on the planet, with the intent of
| |
| grabbing many of the endangered and therefore valuable
| |
| animals. DeVeers executives hired Major Sasaki Maruyama
| |
| and his team of mercenaries to fend off the attacks.
| |
| Maruyama conscripted many of the New Natal staff to work
| |
| with his team. The New Natal team was trained to act as
| |
| anti-poaching scouts by Maruyama. The poachers were run-
| |
| off later that year. Maruyamas' team departed.
| |
| During the rainy season of Cole's eighteenth year the
| |
| smugglers returned. Targeting the communications array,
| |
| and the power grid first, hoping to prevent help being
| |
| summoned. Cole convinced Harry to transport his scouts
| |
| to their landing area. Harry reluctantly agreed and
| |
| loaded the Scouts onto one of the towns Mercedes Utility
| |
| Aerodynes. The smugglers picked up the flyer and shot it
| |

| The Mercedes crash-landed, killing many of the scouts.

| Harry Halliburton died at the controls, and Cole's left arm was
| |
| badly mangled. Cole rallied the two remaining scouts and
| |
| attacked the smugglers. They were distracted long enough for
| |
| help to be summoned. Cole passed out from blood loss before the
| |
| battle was over.
| |
| Upon regaining consciousness, Halliburton found that
| |
| help had arrived in the form of a SF destroyer. A few days
| |
| after the distress call was made the USS SALADIN entered orbit and
| |
| beamed down two squads of SFMC soldiers. One team tracked
| |
| down the poachers in the field, while the other team moved into the
| |
| town to defend it from attack. The poachers were captured
| |
| before any of the animals were killed or injured.

| |

| Cole Halliburton joined the SFMC upon graduation, and fell quickly
| |
| into the Marine Lifestyle. He enjoyed the travel, the learning
| |
| opportunities, and the life of adventure. A natural leader, he
| |
| thrived in battlefield conflict, and regimental pride. His
| |
| comfortable NCO status was interrupted when the officers of the
| |
| Recce Regiment were slain in the drawn out fighting on Metlandi.
| |
| Halliburton, amongst others believed that using Recce forces
| |
| as regular infantry in the Metlandi fighting, was a dreadful mis-use
| |
| of elite forces. The Metlandi conflict burned out as Halliburton
| |
| returned from OCS, and Halliburton put in for transfer to Starship duty.
| |
|
| |
|
| Halliburton fared well on board USS LEVIATHAN, and respected fellow
| |
| officers. The Tybiiran Campaign was especially difficult, as the Gorn
| |
| were fierce and tenacious. Many of Halliburton's command were lost in the
| |
| battles. Halliburton felt some justification for this as a Borg
| |
| menace was silenced with this action. The handling of the later hostage
| |
| situation on Thizarus Yzok began to unravel Halliburton's faith. After
| |
| the death of many Marines and the near destruction of the USS LEVIATHAN at
| |
| the battle of Galen-Beta Trianguli-Iota Cassiopeae, Halliburton was
| |
| summoned to what he assumed would be the Court-Martial of Commander
| |
| Luciano Landor-Pensin. Landor-Pensin escaped the hearing with only a
| |
| reduction in rank. Halliburton did not react well to this: he rejected
| |
| his re-enlistment papers a few months later, and retired from the SFMC.
