== <center>'''"Bringing Information Together"'''</center> ==

We, the players of [[ASR| Alt-StarFleet-RPG]], found that it is sometimes hard to find the information needed for a post, for a new character or a new mission.

Sure, they are available on the internet, but it could takes hours of research to what you are looking for, and then how do you know if it will mesh with the game itself?

Therefore the concept know as the Bureau of Information was born.

Here you find a place, where a good portion of 'game canon' information has been brought together.

That means besides the "standard" information such as rank tables, we also set up a database of all cultures roleplayed here, of star systems and, of course, our jewel, the mission database (under development).

We need your help to continue filling the BoI with new life and data. Every player in [[ASR]] is asked to submit information about new cultures, news star systems, mission summaries, new phenomenons... every interesting bit of information you feel worth mentioning.

Enjoy your trek through our databases and may they fill your journeys in writing with us with a new, richer life.

If you have want to help us building BoI, have ideas comments or need help, please don't hesitate to contact [mailto:keri@gmx.net?subject=BoI Kevin Richter].
Regeneration rates on station shields are also correspondingly larger.
FD-12 are the shielding systems used on Federation Battleships of the
ZEUS class
Station shields are usually divided into semi-independant and overlapping
sectors. Starbase OMEGA has 24 sectors approximately 1200m long,
divided into quadrants around the station. It is possible for shields
to fail in a single quadrant and to cover quadrants with weakened
extended shields from neighboring quadrants.
Notes:

Starbase KAPPA is one of the smallest fleet command starbases in the
Federation. It was converted from the Hospice-class Medical Outpost in
the Khitomer system to act as a central command post for the region. With
a permanent occupation capacity of only 50,000, it is hardly larger than
many deep space stations. However, the base was refit with an internal
dock which allows the base to service a single large cruiser (or even a
SOLAR-class battlecruiser) or multiple smaller ships. It is not possible
to dock more than one large cruiser or capitol ship at a time in Starbase
KAPPA; however, it is possible to dock up to 5 smaller light cruisers in
the base simultaneously or multiple smaller vessels.

Khitomer has a number of free-floating space docks in orbit which have
been installed to supplemant the capabilities of the base for repair and
refit. Most starships with substantial damage are repaired to the point
which they are spaceworthy and then sent to ship yards for overhaul
because of the efficiency of these yards. The nearest yard to SB KAPPA
and Khitomer is in the Epsilon Indi (Andor) system. With the arrival of
Daystrom Spaceframe Industries, a pair of more advanced refit and
construction bays have been towed into the system. While is is unlikely
that a full shipyard will be constructed this close to the Klingon and
Romulan borders, it is anticipated that repair and refit capabilities of
the facilities in the system will conintue to improve.

In emergency situations, like other Hospice-class stations, the base is
capable of supporting large numbers of personnel and has enormous areas
dedicated to conversion to emergency medical suites.

The peaceful origins of the station did not prevent a massive overhauling
of the basic defensive grid for the starbase, however. When the base was
redesignated a fleet command starbase, the weaponry was massively
upgraded.
availble by appointment. Featuring an eclectic collection of
holoprograms gauranteed to suit to the adventurous and romantic.

B. Casablanca: A bar

C. Cavalier's Relics: An antiques shop, owned and operated by Luc
Cavalier. The shop is facing Casablanca. Inside the shop are four
display rooms and storage areas, although only two of the display
rooms have yet opened.

D. Mak'bara studio: (unnamed) It's positioned in a corner at one end
of the Promenade and contains at least a large room, mostly covered
with a mat, and a small office by the door to the Promenade.

E. Cafe` Fandango: A civilian replimat. Owned and operated by Melanie
Chiswell It's three stores down from Cavalier's Relics, The 'only'
place, (according to it's management and apart from the Ferengi
hideouts, to obtain non-Starfleet accessories.)

F. Security Office: No decorations, the walls are covered with
monitors. In time of crisis, she'd be running around the station,
in Ops or in her office. The door to the detention cells is in her
office.

G. Civilian Visitor's Quarters

Deck Four

A. Docking Operations

1. Interior docking area equipped with four spacedocks 650-A
through C, 810-A can accomodate ships of a length of up to the
number in its designation (in meters, lengths are given in the
specifications). The 650's can handle small CA's, most CL's and
all smaller ships; the 810's handle most BC's and everything
smaller.

2. Enclosed docking facility occupies a large portion of the
station, but is relatively modest for a fleet command starbase.

B. Two THUNDERBOLT-class escort destroyers are permanently assigned
to the station and are docked in the areas below deck 4, WARHAWK
and MIRAGE.

Notes:

With the need to build a power core on site, the modules were originally
not equipped with artificial gravity generators, gravity being provided by
spinning the station as in very early space station constructions efforts
in the Sol System and many other systems throughout the Federation
centuries ago. This gives the station the distinctive look not generally
seen in modern station construction, that of a number of rings of modules
arranged around a hollow core.

Fundamentally, the station is a cyliner of 722.8m radius, with two smaller
sections, one on each end, and a larger section of 1470m radius for
1830.8m located 963.6m in from the front end of the station. Shuttle
docks run down the core of the station from C&C to about half-way through
the business section. The ship docks are divided into Star Fleet
(military) and Civilian sections by bulkheads and the sections have
separate external space doors for access.

The foremost ring houses Star Fleet command and control facilities. At its
centre are a series of docking bays capable of handling very small
starships, but primarily intended to service shuttlecraft. These bays and
the cargo handling areas associated with them extent aft into the second
ring which houses the Star Fleet offices and crew accommodations for both
Navy and Marine personnel aboard the station. This area originally had
accommodations for some 1500 individuals. It has now been expanded by
adding living areas aft of the secondary ring and forward of the tertiary
ring to house an additional 7500 beings at maximum occupancy. Encircling
part of the original docking bays and the cargo bay, is the huge main
docking ring. This linked series of six docking bays will, when completed,
allow the starbase to internally accommodate up to six SOLAR-class
battlecruisers or a large numbers of smaller starships. This has greatly
increase the station's ability to repair and refit starships, tasks that
are almost impossible without these bays.

The tertiary ring is the location of the first public facilities on the
station. This area houses the business sector, often referred to as the
"Promenade." Operations of all sorts have grown up recently in the wake of
the rapid increase in trade. Almost any legally available commodity or
service can be bought in this section. Many civilian living spaces are
located in this sector. The core of this section houses machine ships,
about one third of which have remained zero- or low-gravity work areas be
cause of the benefits of those environments to certain construction
activities.

Aft of the tertiary ring, a new ring is being constructed to house
ambassadorial delegations from various neighbouring races in a special
section separate from the main civilian housing. This should aid the job
of station security considerably.

Beyond the ambassadorial ring is located the largest ring of the station,
and site of heavy construction to expand it to keep up with the expanding
needs of the station, the hydroponics garden ring. This ring not only
provides a necessary reprieve from t he grey walls of the station in a
system with no class-M worlds, but also provides for both the growing of
fresh food and the replenishment of the station's atmosphere for
oxygen/nitrogen breathers.

Aft of the hydroponics bays are the last two sections of the station,
carefully isolated from one another and from the rest of the station.
These are the alternate atmosphere living facilities and the engineering
sections. The former providing housing to the many alien life forms not
indigenous to an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere and the latter providing the
bulk of station power.

With the advent of artificial gravity generators on the station, the
engineering sections were immediately connected via a long, limited access
corridor to the command sections. These corridors house a number of
turbolifts and access both engineering and , though separate lifts, a new
brig section built forward of engineering in an effort to make the brig
more secure by isolating it from most other sections with habitable
environment.

Also, the docking bays are stationary even though the rest of the station
rotates. Gravity generatos are used only to balance the gravity on all
decks to 1 Earth-standard gravity as opposed to the 0.7-1.1 variation due
to rotation. Most quarters are located in the 0.9-1.1 g section so that
minimal disruption is created if the gravity generators go offline.

The Starbase Omega Story:

For the first twenty years of its existence, Starbase Omega had been a
footnote in the log of vessels and stations. Almost no-one had heard of
Deep Space Station 239 and those that did regretted the poor luck of their
assignment to it.

Now, all that had changed. With the discovery of the Dalriada, a race of
humans native to this region of space, and the growing trade coming
through the base from all across the sector, Starbase Deep Space 239 had
taken on new life and new significance. With the coming of Indigo Fleet
command and the massive expansion of the base's meagre facilities to serve
as a fleet command starbase, what had once been a post for exiled
miscreants and troublemakers, was now one of the most desirable postings
in the Federation.

Alien residents were flocking to the new opportunities presented by the
island of neutrality that was Starbase Omega. Already, nearly forty of the
fifty-odd thousand beings on the station were not Federation citizens.
The station's internal volume would more than triple in the next year with
the rapid construction efforts, large docking bays capable of handling
Federation cruisers would also be added. That meant that the population of
a base once manned by less than two thousand would reach almost two
hundred thousand over a period of only eighteen months.
Deflector System : FS-3 Starbase deflector system*
*Note: FS-1 = Civilian Station
FS-2 = Federation Research Station
FS-3 = Deep Space Station
FS-4 = Fleet Command Starbase
Relative power output: FS-1/FD-12 = 0.8; FS-2/FD-12 = 10;
FS-3/FD-12 = 25; FS-4/FD-12 = 50
Regeneration rates on station shields are also correspondingly larger.
FD-12 are the shielding systems used on Federation Battleships of the
ZEUS class
Station shields are usually divided into semi-independant and overlapping
sectors. Starbase OMEGA has 24 sectors approximately 1200m long,
divided into quadrants around the station. It is possible for shields
to fail in a single quadrant and to cover quadrants with weakened
extended shields from neighboring quadrants.
Marine Dropship (Command): 1

Fundamentally, the station is a cyliner of 722.8m radius. Shuttle
docks run down the core of the station.
from C&C to about half-way through
the business section. The ship docks are divided into Star Fleet
(military) and Civilian sections by bulkheads and the sections have
separate external space doors for access.

Gravity generatos are used only to balance the gravity on all decks to 1
Earth-standard gravity as opposed to the 0.7-1.1 variation due to
rotation. Most quarters are located in the 0.9-1.1 g section so that
minimal disruption is created if the gravity generators go offline.

Starbase ALIGHIERI was first modified from the base design by the addition
of a communications relay in the central core of the station. This relay
was intended to allow high-power subspace signals to be sent back towards
the center of the Federation. Because of the very high power signal
boost, nearly a month could be cut off transmission time, making
communication in five months rather than six possible. With the greater
use of dimensional-warp courier ships which cut message relay time to a
mere 7 days, the system was still used until recently as a communications
relay along the frontier.

A ring of docking pylons was later added to the station as it served as a
repair and refit facility for ships operating on the frontier.

When emphasis shifted from DS-230 to DS-239 because of the latter's more
extensive use as a trading facility, staffing levels on DS-230 were
reduced. When INDIGO Fleet was assigned to the frontier, DS-239 was
chosen to become Starbase OMEGA and was extensively refitted. DS-230 fell
into disuse and staff was reduced to minimal levels. When the Dante
System activities heated up, the base was towed into the system to act as
a command post for the Dante Expeditionary Force.
NOTES

DEEP SPACE 13 is a medium size modular station designed to be easily
deployed, assembled and disassembled in its place of residence. It
consists of 5 greatly independent modules, named Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta
and Omega. All but Beta are cylinder-like shaped, of 225 meters length and
150 meters of diameter. Section Alpha is a command Type III section, while
sections Gamma, Delta and Omega are different civilian Type VI sections.
Section Beta is an orthohedron of 225 meters of side and 300 meters height
engineering Type II section modified to hold main Shuttlebay. All sections
are connected through umbilicals and special gel-connected free rotating
heads. Energy conduits and computer wiring is designed to allow free
rotation between the modules, but standard operation should minimize the
rotation of sections to facilitate cargo and embark operations. All
modules can be isolated from the rest in case of emergency.

Propulsion systems provide the station with the ability to move itself
around once deployed and assembled for small distances (tipically to
change orbits or similar maneuvres), provided by the networks of specially
designed thrusters (anyway, due to the displacement of the station,
trhusters have a poor performance).

All sections but Beta has 12 decks, Beta having just 11 high ceiling
decks. This makes a total of 59 decks, which are localted by
section-number up-down (eg. Alpha-3 is deck #3 and Gamma-9 is deck #32).
All sections have a 36 meters diameter cylindrical core that contains the
main wirings and energy conduits shared with the other sections. Section
Beta has, besides the M/AM reactor core, a backup reactor, main
engineering and main shuttlebay. Sections Alpha and Beta are considered
security critical and are separated from the civilian sections by several
security layers.

Decks B-1 and -2 on section Beta and deck 7 in the rest of the sections
are exclusively dedicated and designed to host a modified version of the
ORACLE Sensor Phalanx, designated ORACLE IIs. Modifications to the basic
ORACLE design, due to the lack of a distorting warp field while in
operation and greater space availability has allowed to install a sensor
network with broader multi-scan capabilities and range in all frequencies
than any starship class. Equipped whith this and other enhancements taken
from the successful AUGUR sensor networks, DS13 perfectly fulfills its
primary role as a Deep Space surveyor, controlling the Gorn and Tholian
boundaries with Federation territory. Adding to this, DS13 is surrounded
by a shell of 174 class 1 and 2 Sensor Probes, deployed at a distance of 7
light-seconds from the station. They serve multiple purposes, as
amplifying the station sensoring capabilities as well as augmenting the
resolution by a 31%. All this capacity is further enhanced by the
excellent sensor systems and great mobility of its support CHARON-class
FL, USS TITANIA.

Decks B-8, -9 and -10, where the main M/AM reactor is hosted, are
specially prepared to allow de emergency shutdown and expulsion of the
core in case of inminent breach, via several protocols. It has been
calculated that the station would only suffer a drop to 12% of the shields
if the ejection of the core would happen 30 seconds before detonation.

Decks Gamma-6, -7 and -8 hold a promenade. Despite the fact that the
primary roles of the station are Starfleet oriented, it will also hold
merchant ships and civilians.

The station is defended by an array of phasers fed by each module reactor
core. This phaser strips have been modified so the power output is greater
per unit length. This allows for smaller strips, which provide safer
conditions for the ,ain station weapon, as it makes them harder to be
disabled. Additionally, several quantum torpedoes launchers and 4 pulse
phaser cannons provide stronger defensive capabilities. These are attached
to sections Alpha (A) and Omega (W) attachment ports as independent
modules, fed by their own engines and helped by the station reactors. A
Point Defense laser system is being installed to provide better defense
against small crafts and torpedoes or missiles. A THUNDERBOLT-class
Destroyer has been assigned to DS13, the USS SPITFIRE, which makes it even
heavierly defended. Standard multiphasic deflector systems provide a
suitable shield for the station. For intra-station defense, DS13 accounts
a standard complement of 420 Marines (3 Starfleet modules 140*3. The two
civilian modules have Navy or UFP Marshalls security).

DS13 has suitable acommodation for diplomatic delegations, providing big
areas for native biospheres for liasons of Gorn, Tholian and Rihannsu
potencies. It has also extensive medical facilities, being able to attend
emergencies from damaged ships or evacuation of colonies (although there
are no known colonies near the station). If any off-station diplomatic
mission arise, the USS TITANIA is well suited with specialised areas for
native biospheres and appropriate PRO support. This provides the USS
SPITFIRE greater freedom to act as an escort vessel.

Operation Center (Ops), sited on decks Alpha-2 and -3, is equipped with
dedicated areas for Flight Control and Fleet Command operations,
accordingly with the station secondary mission profile.

The station can be assembled and get completely functional within a week.
Disassembling can be accomplished in 1.9 days. Emergency disassembling,
however, can be achieved in 1.3 hours. Thruster systems give the station
the ability to move from one place to another, although they are not
designed to move the station like a starship would. The station does not
possess any rotation around its axis to avoid problems with docked ships
and to facilitate ships operations. Transport to goal locus can be easily
acomplished by towing the different sections with a flotilla of ATs
escorted by some FLs.

Additionally, DS13 has been assigned a class II spacedock facility,
situated 10 km away of the station. Class II spacedock repair facilities
can assist and repair slight or medium damage ships up to the size of a
MAGELLAN-class Heavy Cruiser. Two cargo containers are assigned to the
repair facility, both can be easily moved by assembly with a Warp Tug TA.
The support ships TITANIA and SPITFIRE are usually locked by some small
tractor beams and umbilicals to section Beta.

DECK PLANS

(NB. blanks are left to the imagination, but I guess SIFF generators,
artificial gravity and other niceties like the small docking ports for
freighters, civilian houses and such have to be located somewhere <g>)
