B. Background Summary:
----------------------
Tsukaharu Osamu was born in 2389 on Fukuoka Colony as the third of
four children. His grandfather, Ken, was president of Tsukaharu Security, a
private ship-escort company. His father, Shin, commanded the Yashi Maru for
the company for most of Osamu's life. For the most part, Osamu was raised by
his mother in a very traditional manner.
During middle school, Osamu became fascinated with Star Fleet,
studying what he could of the organization's history. His family was not
very supportive of this, wanting him to continue the family tradition and
work for Tsukaharu Security. Bowing to his family's wishes, Osamu gave up
the desire to join Star Fleet and upon his graduation from high school,
attended Fukuoka University, earning a Bachelor's Degree from the School of
Tactics and joining the crew of his father's ship as an able crewman.
A year later, Osamu's grandfather died and the duty of running the
company fell to his father, and Osamu was assigned to the weapons control
team of the Yashi Maru. Six months later, while the Yashi Maru and several
other Security-owned ships were escorting a dilithium convoy, a Gorn raiding
fleet attacked the convoy, overwhelming the escorts, who were forced to send
a distress signal. A Star Fleet vessel in the region responded and
successfully drove off the Gorn vessels. Osamu was impressed by what he saw
of Star Fleet and as a matter of personal honor, decided to join Star Fleet.
His family objected as before and Osamu was all but disowned for insisting
on joining Star Fleet. He attended the Officer Candidate School, and upon
graduation was billeted to the USS Billy Mitchel, a WOLFE-class frigate assigned
to border patrol along the edge of Tholian space, as a junior tactical officer.
After serving two three-year tours aboard the Billy Mitchel, Osamu put in a
request for a transfer to a more “interesting” billet. The request was approved,
and Osamu was billeted to the USS Odysseus.
C. Personality Summary:

Tsukaharu Osamu is a very traditional individual, a devout Shintoist and
follower of the Bushido code. Having been raised in a predominantly Nihonjin society
with the values of uchi-soto and tatemae deeply ingrained in him, Osamu is often seen
as overly polite and even xenophobic by some.
